Fantasy !!
by Rehaan on Aug 06, 2008 04:52 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

"IT IS HEREBY DECLARED THAT THE TEXT AND CONTENT OF THE INTERVIEW IS PURLY FICTIONAL AND IT HAS NO RELEVANCE WHAT-SO-EVER TO THE FACTS OR THE PROGRESS OF THE N-DEAL".

This deal is final. These are those little speed-breakers. The powerful jugernaut of Bush and company is capable of achieving the un-achieveable.

Hope for the best. Do not pay attention to the interview above.

Don't underestimate the smaller nations. They can sabotage the deal. But, I really hope that USA can flex its muscle power to force them to vote for the deal.

This is what the Indian Govt was unable to comprehend or was trying to befool the countrymen. Once the Safeguards Agreement is in force, it cannot be rescinded unilaterally.

NSG's clean waiver will probably remain a fantasy
by visu madhu on Aug 06, 2008 04:40 PM  Permalink

Two predominant reasons that can be sited are firstly US Government doesnt have time on its calendar to give its consent. Secondly, Republicans have to come to power in order to put in vogue this deal. From the latest reports Obama seems to be leading with 47% support and McCain is with 42%. Each day, McCain seems to be putting his foot in his mouth and losing his popularity. It was sited in New York Times newspaper that he is computer illiterate and that has gone against him. SO with republicans slowly losing thier hold the NSG could never become a reality and will remain a 'fantasy'!

Now the truth starts coming out..

Now the leeches are coming out the woodwork. There is no way the world is giving us a fantasy deal like the Congress and the Government would like us to believe - there must obviously be something in it for them. Even in today's HINDU there is a front page article on how the NSG agreement is likely to be the NPT by another name. This government has severely compromised the strategic sovereignity of this country and for what? 3% of our energy needs 20 years from now? This government has completely failed to read between the lines in the agreement especially the NSG part of it. The 2 aims of this agreement from the US point of view are to help their energy companies make billions from India and to get India to be part of the discriminatory NPT regime. We are really fools to believe that people are giving us a great agreement for free - remember, there ain't no such thing as a free lunch

Actually I have read the 123 agreement and the IAEA safeguards agreement - the NSG agreement is still confidential to my knowledge. I think the government has only seen the good aspects of the deal, which are admittedly many, but have not seen the holes in the deal like indirectly taking away our right to test, indirectly making us sign NPT and so on, which is why I said the Govt has failed to read between the lines.

Friend, Please see the contentious issues in the Hyde act
1. No freedom to handle spent fuel.
2. No guarantee for alternate fuel supply
3. India is not a technology developer but a recepient.
4. India to side with US in NPT
5. India to participate with US National Security Administration for NPT.
6. Reporting of US President on the efforts of India in containing IRAN.
7. India denied space related dual use technology
8. India denied strategic planning of nuclear programms.
9. Stopped India in the production of fissile materials.
10.No joint move for universal nuclear disarmament.
11.All future agreeents are to be in consistent with this act.
Hyde act is the enabling act for the 123 agreement.

Leaders declare that all these are wrong but failed to arrange a debate in Parliament.
LEFT and BJP failed in the parliament to expose the omissions

Is it not surrendering our freedom and sovereignty?

I agree entirely - I have infact seen the Hyde Act as well. It is the most scary of the lot and the govt says it does not apply to India as it is a US law. Fact is that 123 cannot take place withoout the Hyde act. All 11 points uve made are absolutely right. The most scary one for me is the issue of Iran which basically means our foreign policy has to be decided in Washington not New Delhi. Very sad indeed. There are many good aspects to the deal, but there are many bad aspects as well. We dont really need the deal desperately anyway, so why are we going ahead with it when it has so many loopholes?

All the powerful nations know that even if the deal is not through, India's development can't be contained. Without other countries help also India will become an economic power. Only thing the pace will be slightly slower. So all the NSG countries and the US congress if not in this year, but coming years will budge. India should have the patience. Ultimately nature will take its own course. Lets be positive. Vante Mataram!

Read the words of Homi J Bhaba. " "if India went all out, it could produce a nuclear device in 18 months, and with a US blueprint it could do the job in six months". Dated February 22, 1965,We need not be so impatient!!

N DEAL
by rakesh seth on Aug 06, 2008 04:34 PM  Permalink

This is a real fantassy to digest whatever has been describeed by the gentleman from USA.Firstly how he is concerned with ongoing stategic settlement to disclose senate's view even before their official process starts.
Secondly we might have our opnion placed on thier table in a different way butit is not the last winter for USA to make certain changes which are ill-fruitful for us
and thirdly it is not a political deal, it is a business deal and USA KNOWS IT.

It's not we who need this

International community shud be very clear that we are not in need of this deal. It is their companies who are pressurizing them for the del to win business. US, France Russia will go out of the way to support the deal and its clearance I can assure u. It is >$100 billions.

One thing I dont understand. Those who oppose the deal, say India wud be generating only 4% or energy requirement in 2020 or 2030. Now is the most novice way to play with numbers. Of course that the Indian population in majority does not understand this but surprisingly even govt never bothered to clarify.
This comaprison is between apple and orange.
Estimated Demand. It is calculated basis economic forecasts and all those economic indicators. But please note that u can predict anything. Assuming all the forecasts become true, we have demand of x MW pa in 2030.
Now they have surprisingly forecasted 1. the energy produced in 2030 2. %age of nuclear energy produced in 2030.
Now if we get the deal thru, how do u forecast these figures? There has to be a modification in this 4% figure considering the deal.
So there shud be 2 figures saying 1 without deal and 2 with deal. Makes sense?
very importantly, dams and all are being recommended. How do u plan do it? I have seen 2 dams, which are being consturcted ever since i was born. And u know what after being completed at 1000% more cost (280 cr to 2750 Cr) the bigger one has not produced a single MW of energy. The engineers realized recently that the desgn was fa

faulty. LOL. it took them >20 years to realize that.

Then the small one. It was being done by state electricity board. Since inception, the consultant gave negative feedback in feasibility study. But board people are putting in money in the well and taking it out for their own welfare.
it was budgeted to be 35 crore project. Already 200 Cr gone.
I am with-holding the name of my state deliberately. some personal reasons.

The practice in the bureaucracy is to prepare projections according the need :). For the sake of signing the deals. And not according to the ground realities. That is our main problems.
