A teacher who is now constructing his house with a LIC loan in SIRA lamented over the price of cement & steel. A Self-Help Group by name Sree Durgambika from Jagalur wants interest free loan for its group, if not full subsidy of Rs.25,000/- per group.
For the first time in the history of Assembly Poll in Karnataka, a sizeable population expects some kind of law and order problem in few areas. According to few, the BJP and Congress leaders are out to capture power by all means. This is bound to create problems at the micro level! Nevertheless, most feel happy about the Election Commission%u2019s Code of Conduct, especially the banning of meetings beyond 10.00 p.m. They also would like small / big rallies, and burning of the effigies of rival parties to be banned in the State. Party Preference for voting %u2013 %uF0EA Whom are you likely to vote for ? 76% only have come out with their clear answers. Out of this, 31% preferred Congress, followed by the BJP - 29%, JD(S) 13%, the BSP 3% and others %u2013 24%. From the preferences indicated, the Congress seem to have slight edge over BJP. CONGRESS seems to have been liked by more women in comparison to women%u2019s preference to BJP.
The investigators had also enquired the voters as to whom they voted last time and only 58% responded to this. Out of 75 who had earlier voted to JD(S) have now shifted their preference. Out of this oscillating voters, Congress got 46%, 42% by the BJP and balance - others. This would mean that those who deserted JD
People in general are much worried about the price rise of essential commodities but due to confusion on the matter, they are not able to pinpoint the main %u201Cparty%u201D behind the price rise. While few blame the Centre, others blame the State Government. %uF09F In general, the lower middle class is not happy about the price rise. The middle class sees a kind of consumer boom, resulting in cheap, good quality consumer goods. What worries most is the price rise of food and other essential commodities of daily use. %uF09F Many think that elections only provide a chance to a new group of legislatures to %u201Camass property%u201D. The legislature in their opinion has not been able to provide good roads, water, electricity, good education and health to children and families, leave alone they being %u201Ceven available to them to hear their grievances%u201D. According to them, the elected ones spent most of the time either in Bangalore or in approaching the political bosses ! %uF09F One auto driver in Belgaum said that %u201CAll MLAs, MPs and even the ward members are only for power%u201D %uF09F A teacher from Davangere said that %u201Cvoters during election time fall prey to all kind of promises only to repent later%u201D
%uF09F A farmer from Chitradurga district feels that %u201Cthe waiver of loans and low interest rates are only to win over the voters and not emerged with real concern%u201D %uF09F A small farmer from Tumkur said that he was not able to get remunerative prices for his product like ragi, jowar and cotton whereas when he buys essenti
In general, voters are not happy about the present election. Therefore, we do not see a %u201Cmassive emergence%u201D of voters to go to the booth either to support or reject a party. There is no sympathy wave or anti-incumbency factor. %uF09F Many districts are yet to show signs of electoral activity, while in few districts like Mysore, Bellary and Davangere, election fever is fast rising. %uF09F The ongoing realignment of political forces at the District level and the perceived division of voters along caste lines have buoyed up the hopes of many sitting MLAs at the district level once again to get elected from their seats.
%uF09F It is most unlikely that the State polling will cross 65% %u2013 the highest being 85% and the lowest even 35%. This indicates the need for voters awareness %u2013 not only to make them to come to the booth, but even to tell the process of voting perfectly. According to a lawyer from Bangalore, %u201Cmany educated refrain from exercising their franchise citing various reasons%u201D However, these are the very people who blame the Government policies and politicians for all the plagues affecting the country. %uF09F There is a kind of tilt among sizeable voters towards the BJP, as JD(S) has denied the former%u2019s due share of power under the %u201CPower Sharing Formula%u201D. But then, this sympathy can be cashed in only if BJP field better candidates. Any heart burn from good aspiring candidates, if they are denied the seats, may snow

Dear Gouri
Caste Eqations & the Present scenario after yeddi has been denied to continue as a CM holds a key in Karnataka Politics. the lingayat Votes are the key for any sucessfull results as they vote in a similar pattern to Muslims voters from the begining. The caste wise equations in Karnataka are as fallows
Now the voting pattern shall be and has been with similar situations as below.
Predicted BJP's Vote share out of the percentage mentioned above :
60% Lingayat i.e 10.2 percent of Population(Yeddi's Mercy) 30% Vokkaliga i.e 4.5 Percent of pop (Divided b/n S.M.K,HDD,& SDG) 80% Bhramin i.e 4.8 percent of pop 20% of Kurubas i.e 3.2 percent of pop 40% of others i.e 6.4 percent of pop. 25% of Dalits i.e 5.75 percent of pop Muslims shall never vote bjp.
with above traditional dedicated voters added with Lingayat voters, they form 34.85 (gain index) percent of total karnataka population.
Yet again,Let us consider a POLLING DAY Voting Percentage of
45-52 % Then BJP Stands to gain a narrow margin of simple majaority.
If the voting pattern is 52-65 % then BJP Stands to gain more than 135 seats.
LET US WAIT AND WATCH. I HAVE A SIMILAR CALCULATIONS FOR CONGRESS ,(their gain index is 28.2 percent.
With issues like price rise, poor infrastructure, etc shall further add up in B

While Modi is playing ''development'', Congress is busy playing Caste-card! by Tathagata Mukherjee on Oct 08, 2007 07:41 AM | Hide replies
While Modi is playing "development", Congress is busy playing Caste-card to divide Hindus.
Tell me, what sort of degressive politics is this by Congress? How far they can go down, even by rallying people along caste, which we as a nation are supposed to stop.
Preciely because of these degressive politics, people are supporting aggressive Hindutva which alone can unite Hindus.
Psuedos must wake up and ponder: DID NEHRU NEED CASTE TO PURSUE SECULARISM, DEVELOPMENT? WHY CONGRESS IS RESURRECTING CASTE NOW? DOES IT NOT MEAN, THEY HAVE LOST RATIONALITY, IDEA?

No matter how corrupt and inefficient Congress and JDS have been, BJP do not deserve a chance. When it comes to corruption, they are second to none, and in hypocrisy and deceit, they are in a league of their own. They do not mind befooling anyone including Lord Rama, the biggest sufferers at their hands have been those emotional fools, who believe that BJP will do something to stop or slow down the islamisation of the country. When given the chance, they have tried to prove that they are more 'secular' than others. If we have to be ruled by 'secular' parties only, what is wrong with Congress or JD-Secular?
People of Karnataka will definitely vote for the true saviour of the working class -- the Congress Party under the leadership of Mdm Sonia Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi.

Why don't you send May Day greetings to your communist compatriots in North Korea? Once again, this stalinist-state is facing a severe famine. A communist cannot see the truth even if it is dangled in front of his eyes.
