India should develop a Cost Effective Version of Democracy
by Praveen George on Apr 29, 2008 03:43 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am a big fan of democracy due to the collective decision making which i feel would be fair sensible and righteous, but giving this ability to a bunch of immature hooligans could be dangerous, imagine an extreme right wing organization becomes a guardians of the decision making bodies of India. So i strongly believe deomocracy is India should change from the western definition of democracy to somethign which would be suitable for India. We can't have lethargic decision making in the name of democracy, we can't spent billion rupees to run elections every 5 years. My suggestion is let us follow a decentralized approach, instead of allowing voting powers to every people let the poeple vote of panchayat members and only these members should be allowed voting in Loksabha/State Assemble elections. Why spend billions to keep electing some scum bags , better save that money so that we can build roads/bridges

Additionally government should be allowed to make decisions and any decisions which results in conflicts in the assembly should again be referred for a poll by these same panchayat members, so stalemates in assembly would be resolved by again these folks. This ensures that each and every little village becomes and integral part of the nationaly building process, if you look at chinas governing system, it exactly follows this approach, the power percolated down to the village leaders. And decisions pertainign to a village is always made in the village.

Why do you think new parties are not getting formed? Because of the attitude inherent in your reply. If there are many independents over a period of time, either they will come together to form a new party or will join hands with existing parties. At least these independents will educate the masses to some extent. I woudl personally like villages and cities throwing out such wannabe leaders. Thsi si what will generate a kranti/revolution to bring about real change (unless ofcourse you are satisfied being lorded over by retards)It would also be perfectly acceptable if this guy adopts corrupt practices to muzzle his way to the top; as it appears to be the only way to seek power. Who knows he after accumulating power after many years might show more innovativeness and competency in governing because of his knoweldge and high values from previous (working) life.

Real or Reel
by Binu Philip on Apr 29, 2008 03:16 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Being in US for 5 years I have a gut feeling why Mr. Reddy is doing this. His H1 visa is expired and didnt get his green card so far so he decided to get money and power the easy way. I did not find any sincerity or thoughtfulness in his words. why didnt he select a poor part of karnataka to voice his thoughts? Do he think that contesting in elections is the only way to change our country. what are his plans to make people's life better if he is selected? I'm sure hez going to be another politician. Dont abuse me for my message. may be he is a good guy but i'm rather amused by the artificality of the situation.

Binu , can you please stop hogwashing people with opinions like this. I don't blame it on you, i would blame it on the attitude of the people from Kerala, let us stop glorifying inablity to do anything as some sort of "intelligence" , he thought differently and he was passionate about doing it . You don't need a green card in US to stay after 6 years, you just need an EAD which most people will take if he is on H1 for 6 years. Honestly we should be appreciating this guy, he may have his own selfish reasons , but right now it appears that his reasons to go back to india is far better that your(our) reason to stay in US and make money. So give an applause to him, WELL DONE REDDY

If you want to bring about change, the best way is politics (not social service). You need a base to start. He planned well by selecting IT people as they share a value set with him.

Why are we Indian so negative. No wonder we are known the world over as good at pulling each other down.

going by your style, you need the blessings of existing leaders to get into politcs. Whose blessings did Gandhi have? or any one of our freedom fighters who sacrificed their families while many of our grand parents were accumulating title s of Rai Bahadur from the British. The freedom fighters were the leaders, our grand parents were the loosers who failed their children.

I don't know this guy in person but I have seen his videos on youtube and he seems really concerned. He did say he chose Jayanagar because of the large number of intellecutals which is true ( I know a lot of people who stay there and most of them are well educated, holding good positions) and a valid point because for one he can better relate to them and their problems instead of a rural area where he probably has never been. And dont you think that contesting the elctions and winning it is the most effective way to change the society if you really really want to. You will know if you lived in Hanumantanagar,B'lore where there were amazing changes because of the elected representative.Maybe we should stop being cynical of everybody and do believe that there is something good thats happening.

Hi Ravi Krishna Reddy,

I really admire your resolve and courage to put thoughts into actions and enter into politics. I feel it's a great move on your part and sincerely wish that you succeed in your efforts.

India needs leaders who are committed to the people, selfless, uncorrupt, and educated. And I feel you fit the description to the T. I hope people in the Jayanagar constituency come forward and vote for you. I feel honest people like you deserve at least one chance so you can demonstrate what clean and upright politics is all about.

I also hope people everywhere realize what a big step this is for you and that they really encourage you.

All the best !

I wish many more youths return and take part in active politics. But my appeal to them, be leaders and not slave to Congress party. Read Swami Vivekananda before fighting an elction, which will guide you to be a true leader.
