Guys n Gals, Its time to show some tolerance...... Truthfully most languages in India are being given a second preference to English... we cant say its good or bad.... considering the time we are living in, the only language that should be made compulsory is English... As UR Ananthmurthy says learning other languages should be "Voluntary".. at the same time, people from outside should learn to respect local language and culture..... Rediff should take the blame twisting words or UR anantmurthy and print "'People living in Karnataka should learn Kannada'".. He never meant it that way.. its high time media realize that they have a big responsibility towards the society and not act so cheap.
With more and more people from other parts of Karnataka moving to Bengaluru, it is just a matter of time that Kannada will become more and more prominenet in the coming years. Then every one will use Kannada. So Kannadaigas and UR Ananthmurhty, do not worry.
who is this joker Anaanth murthy ? i am also kannadiga but i hate this Murthy .. all kannadigas knows how to talk kannada .. no need to learn from him ...

He has the complete rights to have a view and express the same. But as a tamilian, if i decide to come to bangalore and learn only german in max muller bhavan and face all the difficulties of interacting with locals, i should be allowed to do so. What do you say ?

read the passage carefully.... he has quoted with reference to 'people who decide to live in karnataka' i.e immigrants and should voluntarily learn kannada. What's wrong with that ?

We Kannadigas know how to protect our language, We need not learn any thing from the mean mentality Tamilian any more. Tamilians talks about India when they are outside TN and force everyone to learn Tamil when they in Tamilnadu.
A trip on the Bangalore roads in a non-A/c car nowadays is an example of global warming showing its ugly head. Had the politicians taken pre-emptive moves when the electronic city was booming, Bangalore would not have reached such a pathetic state. More fuel is burnt at traffic junctions than in actual traffic movement between destinations in peak hours.
Its quite sad that rediff has chosen to mis-quote Mr Ananthamurthy, and convey the wrong message... Kindly refrain from such devious journalism. If one reads the article, one can understand where he is coming from... such a statement out of context promotes regionalistic tendencies. One could have chosen to highlight other important social issues he has spoken of. Rediff is anyway a popular site, please dont try to increase readership by such cheap tactics

They learn local languages, cultures, whether good or bad. But here, we fight and fight and fight. We work hard to find excuses to fight.....
All our languages are richer and have great culture, compared any of European languages. Still we are happy to learn French, German, Spanish, ....... We demean out own languages. Are we not communists in our mindset? (demeaning our own languages and culture).
