Trust rediff to change an inocuous "I fervently desire that those people who decide to live in Karnataka should voluntarily learn Kannada and send their children to Kannada schools." into a belligerent "People living in Karnataka should learn Kannada".

How very smart? I presume that in your dictionary "voluntary" and "forced" mean the same thing.

What do you think "should" means?
Then again, don't bother. Quibbling over terminology isn't going to get us anywhere. Rediff has a history of hyping things beyond recognition, and it is no different this time.

BhejaFry, Is your brain fried? Or where is it situated moron? You read what you want to and not what is there! Idiot, get a life! BTW, why r u concerned? R u one of those chauvinists from outsided Karnataka living there and having utter contempt for the local culture & language?
Hi Rediff team I started reading this article with the fear that intellectuals like Mr.Ananthamurthy also incite people with language politics. I was wrong. You missed 'Voluntarily' in your subject line thus making it sensational and inciting. Request NOT to do this in future. Best regards Ramki

I completely agree with you Ramakrishna. you are great for pointing out such issue. It is provocative heading which is not correct.
Why do politions make life so difficult for people, foreigners who visit the IT state may also have to follow the same and speak local languages each state they visit, there should be only one common language in India and only then will India prosper
Even two kannadigas speak in hindi/english as far as i observed. They ridicule their own flims and take pride in discussing hindi movies.. Then outsiders too wont have the urge to learn this language.
RE:I want to learn kannada, but kannadigas, why are u speaking in hindi/english?
by Ashok Shet on Apr 29, 2008 03:46 PM Permalink
The people who spoke in hindi are not Kannada people, you are misunderstood that they are Kannadigas. They are not deserved to call themselves as Kannadigs
PATHETIC....i thought at least this fellow has brain...very dissapointing...going for chair..why he needs all these..why dont he fight for envirironment..it is going to be the real problem.....this 11 points are just like a 3rd rate political party one.....

Read the interview. Rediff has twisted the line into a sensational heading, as its imbecile yellow journalists often do.

You are very much right....
These so called techies come to karnataka and never go back to their home state. They don't even like to visit their home state. They want everything else in Karnataka not the language.I feel pity .....every one should learn kannada otherwise future will be bleak for you guys...
Now about language...when you learn a new language initially it sounds tough...then once you learn it becomes easy and you will love it..I speak 5 languages I can read/write in all five languages and its a windeful feeling..It sounds so funny and idiotic to blame a particular language.... I don't want to get into the abusive mode with that guy..bu feel pity.....

Our matrabhasha is Kannada and not Hindi. And UR Anantamurthy is a stalwart in our matrabhasha. Smajha u anti-national?
