I am a non kannadiga settled in Bangalore for 13 years. I can speak the local language fluently & I admire the culture. But it is absolutely wrong to force someone to learn a language. It is personal choice. Knowing a local language is only advantageous to that person to handle local situations. Stop thinking in a state level. We need to grow as a nation. Pls answer this: If there were no job opportunities in Karnataka & u had to go to some other state seeking better opportunity, would u have made efforts to learn that language? I dont think so !! Be thankful to people from across the country who have settled in Karnataka, they have helped in the improvement of the city - the benefits of which every one is reaping including the kannadigas. In 1990s, there were not much jobs in karnataka. Jobs were created by these people who came from other states. So no jobs were snatched away from Kannadigas - Infact job opportunity was created for them. They just had to grab it !!

To your question:Please go to Chennai and spend 6 months. You will be fluent in tamil. Its not the case in bangalore. Second: Outsiders did not come here to create jobs. Infact they came here to make money by utilising the resources. you are in a wrong thinking that others came here to create jobs. Some other person was telling they pay taxes. he should understand how much resources like electricity, water, road and sewage they produce compared to the taxes they pay, one should understand. Outsiders are not coming here to do any favour, but help themselves, earn and enjoy better facilities and have a better life than their own state or city. they are here to help themself not the city not the kannadigas.

Common Abhishek, Dont be rubbish.. People are coming down here in search of jobs to feed themselves alongwith their families & not in the interest of developing Karnataka State. If that were the case they must have settled down in their native place by rather than migrating.
Of course if we were gone to different place in search of jobs definitely we learn the local language & will mingel with localites instead of telling all this kaka bull bull stories like state level & national level....
Since you have come down from different state u r talking about national level otherwise u must have also used state level talks only.. I bet!

Well written. Jayanna. People are coming to Bangalore to fulfill their own interest. It is Bangalore, which is nourishing these outsiders and not vice-versa.
Even though Abhishek must be appreciated for learning Kannda, the notion that Bangalore has benefited from outsiders is totally fallacious.
Mr. Murthy attempts to force his language down to everyone's throat. In today's liberal, global, highly mobile environment neither can one compel others to use local language nor is anyone in a position to accept to learn the same. Mr.Murthy's manifestos are more utopian than practical. As far as his loathing of BJP goes, he only shares it with a good number of people all of whom need not be same as Mr.Murthy.

Mr,I am staying in Hyd since 2 year, now I can able to speak and read telugu. What example you want other than this.
I don't know where u stay and also not sure of how many Kannadigas you know. But it is true and a fact that Kannadigas do learn the local language if not go to the vernacular schools. We Kannadigas have no reservations against learning local languages. In B'lore all native b'loreans know Tamil, Telgu and quite a bit Malayalam even though being in B'lore. All border district ppl know the other state's language. We atleast make an effort to learn.
Rediff or for that matter any other news agency or media has this habit of twisting words and reading between lines. Ananthamurthy has said "I fervently desire that those people who decide to live in Karnataka should voluntarily learn Kannada and send their children to Kannada schools" but the heading says 'People living in Karnataka should learn Kannada'. What does this mean? At this rate, I am sure media itself will one day become the reason for all conflict in this world. There is no need for terrorist or other organisations to foment trouble
People should be mature enough to understand that no one can be thrusted to learn a language. It is out of his own will and interest he should learn a language.I ndia is a vast country with 30 states and nearly 50 Languages spoken very often. People keep shunting from place to place for better opportunities. Also kannada is not a ordinary language and we do not need to beg people to learn kannada. If any body is interested let them learn or else there are millions of kannadigas who can protect their mother tounge.I am one of them in Dubai and I do not want stupid arseholes to beg people to learn my mother tounge.I wish to state that Kannada is for people who understand and appericiate the value of knowing this language. To hell with people who do not want to learn this great language. We know the value of our language not only in Karnataka but all over the world and we are silent giants making rapid strides. Please understand the simple truth is that it needs an appetiate from the inner self for a person to learn things in life what ever it may be. regards
I think karnataka should be made as a separate COUNTRY. People from other places should pass IKLTS(International Kannada Language Testing System) and should have visa etc....
Just Imagine if only Kannadigas were working here, then bangalore would have been nothing a big zero. They should respect other people and should thank them, as other state people have made Bangalore so Big and because of that(Sales Tax, other taxes, Renting house) kannada people are surviving greatly

Nobody migrates unless there is a better opportunity. Having got a better opportunity in Bangalore, it is sheer ungratefullness to say that the locals survive because of you. If the success of the place is because of you, why didn't you create a successful enterprise in your home state ? I'm a Maharashtrian born and brought up in A.P., now working in Tamil Nadu. I think your entire approach to the issue is misconceived.
