There is no clause in the 123 agreement that India can reprocess the spent fuel so that it can be re used again as fuel. In absence of the above clause this agreement will put us in trouble like Tarapur. In the case of Tarapur it was a two 250 Mw reactors, where as India is planing to purchace eight 8000Mw reactors from USA. Where will we store the highly radio active material? To generate nuclear power India has to spend three times the cost of thermal power.1Mw nuclear plant costs 11 to 12 crores, where as thermal plant costs 4 crores.USA & UPA Govt. are trying to fool the public in the name of energy security.
A friend of mine was recently in Beijing where at the 'China International Exhibition on Police Equipment Trade Show' he could see that it is business as usual -- since China is the world's fastest-growing market for security and crime-control equipment -- between American multinationals and Chinese police agencies.
Yes he saw while China's Police buying the latest 'latest' from the West to crackdown harder on Tibet. Here's the lowdown:
DuPont had a large exhibit promoting Kevlar bulletproof fabric for riot police use.
Motorola was selling police radio systems as well as wireless systems for transmitting vast quantities of video surveillance data.
Magnum of Britain (with "dress to kill" plastered on their salesmens' black T shirts) showed off their latest police boots because "Chinese police deserve the best -- Magnum protects the protectors".
Intelligent Computer Solutions, USA, offered a most intriguing device to senior Chinese security agency officials. It was the Image Masster RoadMasster, a powerful computer system that swiftly copies computer hard drives without leaving any trace and comes concealed in its own color-coordinated briefcase. The company claimed they sold exactly the same equipment in the same briefcases to the Pentagon for use in Iraq, and to the Central Intelligence Agency and other Western intelligence agencies for use around the world.

There were at least two Hong Kong companies with booths to market fingerprint identification kits which were prominently marked as having been made in the US by American companies.
And (surprise, surprise ! ), all this was happening despite the US Congress having passed a law, which is still effective but only on paper I suppose, banning "the export to the People's Republic of China of any crime control or detection instruments or equipment" after the Tiananmen Square killings of 1989.
And some of our Chinese bootlickers on this Discussion Board don't want us to buy any thing from the US !!!
The deal should b signed, only if USA confirms that Hyde act will not apply to this agreement.
Otherwise our intelligent scientists will find the ways of generating electricity from thorium in a few yrs, which is abudantly available with us. After that USA will b ready to sign this agreement at our terms.
