The happenings n Nepal which was until now like an external part of India but d Maoist victory mad it different. they want ditance fro india & mad it non hindhu state. the dangers r 1. Nepal may b more closer 2 China & less 2 india 2. Tibet going into china first & now nepal coming nearer 2 china s not gud 4 india 3. maoist may export naxalism into india more brazenly 4. Maoists may giv arms & other support 2 indian groups 5. Maoists may align wit Pak 2 trouble india. SO, INDIA WAKEUP NOW!
There was widespread hatred against the monarchs in Nepal. India should have seized the opportunity before China and made it a proper Democratic country. China got the upper hand because India was caught napping. Even now, there is hope left. India should act quickly and capitalise on the discontent that is bound to spread, against Prachanda very soon. Girija prasad Koirala or any other leader who really wants democracy in Nepal should be encouraged and given support by India. Nepal should be saved from the hands of Han Chinese and soon.
The left leaning author is right that elite and corrupt politicians of Nepal did little for the common folks and that paved the way for Maoists. However, Maoists are goons with a defunct ideology and they will now stay on and on because commies lust for power is endless. The end result is Nepal will be another China sans development. Why? The current lot of Maoist leaders reminds me of AASU leaders of Assam who were fireband but with no expertise to govern.
Sadly, Nepal has and will continue to supply maximum girls to India's flesh trading market. WB ranks second in that today and will continue to do that. Both will be red states.

you may comment a country's past, but you can't anticipate it's future, especially when the majority of the country's nation made their own choice to select Maorist. only history will tell.

Do not utter the word 'peaceful' all the time. Read the news carefully and comment. People want to get rid of poverty that 'peaceful' hindu kingdom did not like to provide.
India despite its huge size and population do not seem to influence the neighborhood. The reason is India has divorced itself from its Hindu heritage and not in a position to offer any ideological guidance. It is the same reason that Bangladesh and Pakistan have become Jihadist hubs.
The article appears to be a thought-provoking one and must be appreciated for the 'critical' element inside it irrespective of whether some of the views are to be accepted or not. The Maoist movement in Nepal which is an extremist leftist movement, is an odd one out in the present day situation when most of the world has endorsed the Pro-capitalist market driven -economy and political systems. The Maoist movement in Nepal which rose to a such a height is not a part of a global leftist movement which took place many decades ago in East Europe, Asia and many other parts of the world. This is one good thing about the movement as it is not a part of a global revolution that swept the world many decades ago and in such widespread 'revolutions' there were possible scope of shallowness and less concern for the real cause and more of emotional outbursts that were temporary. The results of such a revolution led to the formation of many socialist nations which all finally ended up as highly hipocratic, autocratic and antihuman political systems. Another good thing about the Nepal's Maoists is that they were democratically elected unlike their counterparts of the past. However, the Maoist idealogy is known to be as an anarchist political philosophy and their movement over the last 10 years showed good signs of it. Therefore the question lies whether they are politically matured enough to sustainably run a nation's government in an organised and democratic way???
