Its the dollar , stupid
by Secular India on Apr 18, 2008 12:04 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Prices have risen in dollar terms and if we had allowed rupee to appreciate against the $$ freely, food prices will come down by at least 20%. to keep Narayan Murthy and software engineers rich, we are starving our people.

This is the stupidest piece of crap i read the whole day, firstly the government cares two hoots about IT or any knowledge or expertice based industries. Secondly Mr. Narayan Murti is a legend and an exemplary honest man so dont drag his name. Thirdly when in any congress rule period have you seen food or any commodity in plenty.

Rising food prices
by Ravindra Rao on Apr 18, 2008 11:43 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Rs 30000 crores for education and several more crores for family planning and lots of crores for rural development. All money of the taxpayer wasted in the name of the poor.Unless family planning is implemented we will have shortages of food, water, land, houses, jobs, practically everything. In many communities girls start breeding at the age of 15 and they need public money for breeding more kids. All that the govt is doing is to raise taxes in the name of the poor who are incresing the population and perpetrating poverty to enable politicians to become rich. All the cabinet miniters of Maharashtra were one time living from hand to mouth. Thanks to Indira Gandhi & Rajiv Gandhi these guys found the crime route to rise up in the Congress party and have assets worth crores of ruppees. Most of them are having Swiss Bank accounts. This is real Garibi Hatao of Indira Gandhi. These ex-criminals are not worried about food they can buy it at the taxpayer's cost at any price.

Affirmative Action needed
by Sunil Dodeja on Apr 18, 2008 11:40 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Shri Shenoy, Can we not use the information that the government was forewarned, yet did nothing, to permanantly debar such ministers from holding offices where the lives of millions are at stake.
A suitable NGO should be supported (if in existence) or created to take on the governement on such issues.

Unfortunately, no such law is available, and will ever be allowed to be made by these politicians. They will never be punished in an Indian court of law.

They continue to loot us, and we continue to vote for them!

FOOD SHORTAGE
by Sujan Kumar Saraswati on Apr 18, 2008 11:25 AM  Permalink

It is a pity that we give more priority to issues like Olympic Torch relay, OBC quota in premier institutions, Rajiv Gandhi being considered Prime Ministrial candidate etc. when issues closer to most of us remain un-attended. Issues like food shortage, non availability of drinking water, non availability of primary education and our steeply rising population should have been given much more attention. Whereas, Govt. of India is reserving seats in the institutes of higher education, Govt. of W. Bengal is opening Madarsas. I do not know, where are we heading to. When are we going to get people like Dr. Swaminathan, Sam Pitroda etc. who made visible difference for the country.

c. Gandhi was clear about his views on agriculture and the villages follow that

d. Get rid of retails like Reliance Fresh which has weeded out all the small time veggie vendors

extremely regressive and outdated options...
need is to plan for improving productivity of the crops....
& u don't hav 2 blame IT 4 this...
but i agree abt real estates...they r unreasonably greedy
& u need 2 realize that rel. fresh etc has removed middleman & provided right price 2 real farmers as well as customers...

Todays Congress govt is a band of Jokers. Playing emotions of people by divide & rule policy. If farmers are getting more money, govt get irritated & ban exports of foods for price control. what about govt employees who are not worthy of their work want to implement 6 th pay commission.

Inflation
by Ashok Tooley on Apr 18, 2008 11:14 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

High prices have become world wide phenomenon. Oil prices have triggered it. Mr Shenoy, do you blame Mr Manmohan Singh and his team for it? Instead of saying - I told you 11 months back- if you could give a solution to it, we will appreciate it more. Power and Energy Security is very important which this Govt. is trying to address along with other issues. Many of us do not want to do anything but blame the Govt. for not doing this or that. It is high time we should relise our responsibility as responsible citizens. Constructive criticism is good but le us do our bit also.

What about service tax which has inflated prices of all services by 12% who is to be blamed/public or FM/PM, similarly in each budget-FM/PM are interested to suck the blood of common people only by way of putting everyone into tax net. They are highly afraid of Govt. servants-why increase salary when it is linked to inflation index(It is KALANK that they have not provided employment to everyone even after 60 years of rule at minimum wages cost, but always hike pay for their own employees. Similary 33% of budget allocation is only for subsidies-an authorised way of political corruption. FM/PM -the fools are not caring tons of crores money given to States for development work has been spent on subsidies etc.,etc.,No action on States for this mis-appropriations.

Ashokji, Indian public is doing its bit, by contributing taxes, like never before. Even 70/80 year olds need to pay taxes, whether they get necessary care and support or not.
The article may be a critic, but it first carries lots of facts which enlighten the largely ignorant public.
Having become aware of the facts at hand it is upon the readers to do their bit by raising the issues at every forum available to them.
Individuals do not matter, but collective and loud opinions do , which will only follow with the dispensation of information.

Govt is not seroius
by Shekhar Malakar on Apr 18, 2008 11:00 AM  Permalink

Our govt is not serious on food production. It's policy shows only reservation for votebank.Time has come for another green revolution which is meant not only for us but also for other country to raise foreign revenue. But our agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar only concentrating on BCCI & importing of foods. They will face serious consequence in future.Last NDA government was better at keeping inflation in stable compared to the current ministry.
