The Olympic Games and the Tibetan Unrest.
by ravi prakash on Apr 07, 2008 03:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The spirit of the Olympics which the author talks about is for the most part given way to a hideously competitive spirit of national sport participiation. It is this spirit which determines which country will host the Olympics.
China thus lays claim by virtue of its medals tally and its nationally mobilised sports infrastructure along military lines.
For all practical purposes, the Olympics have become a huge money spinning opportunity.
The Tibetan Unrest has a huge economic cost if it is seen to dent the revenues from the Games, so it has to be stamped out with the customary Chinese brutality and probably will. The history Olympics will add another dark chapter of brutal Tibetan suppression like the Munich Olympiad -of Palestinian Terror

Are you saying this to lend urself an excuse for the fact that, up till today, India has failed to win a single Gold Medal in the Olympic Games? You are really good at self-deceiving. Pathetic really. Get a life!

Hi Ye,

Do you know your own history? Search about Tiananmen Square and uprising in Biejing University that was brutually supressed by Chinese army. Search about them in Google sitting in your own country...you will never find them...painted green and censored by chinese officials...you will never know truth about your own country...you just know the official version of chinese government....wakeup and know about yourself...

india isnt good at sports. agreed. we dont invest anywhere close to what chinese do. the chinese government "produces" athletes at will. if indians arent intersted, big deal. we will excel elsewhere.

we arent "told" to be athletes. our government doesnt fund massive amounts of money to produce athletes by hook or by crook. drugs, masking et al.

What about a free Khalistan and a free Nagalim???
by XianYe on Apr 07, 2008 03:09 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I might add one positive outcome from Chinese perspective. The Chinese are more united and determined to make China a strong and powerful country that's able to meet any challenge ahead.

I would also like to bring your attention to the possibility that China might decide to be supportive of a free Khalistan to the west of India and an independent state of Nagalim to the east. The aspirations of the Sikhs and the Nagas should be noted and respected.

How is that?

good thinking! bad remains bad and good remains good. india is pure in its origin and so its intentions are also pure. v all will witness the times where the suppressed will be treated fairly. india cannot be broken even in dreams. but tibet will break away on virtue of spirituality, the might fails before spirituality. witness the truth.

Our Prime Minister is Sikh, Our Army Chief for last 3 year was Sikh. Can China make any tibetan a Government head? Instead China banned Tibetan language and crushed their culture. All Han chinese are racist and consider themselves supreme race. We Indians have our own internal problems but we are not lowly creatures like Chinese Government.

A powerfull china is not a concern for the world. But a china which has imperialistic ambition, a china which support terrorist in pakistan, a china which support genocide in burma, a china which is regularly killing innocent tibet people is surely a problem. And whole world should unite to stop any such country which does not respect human values.

very well worded. why will the world want to stop a force it cannot and does not want to stop. every nation goes through a cycle. every kingdom has its own period of rise and fall. the west has already peaked. and its the age of the developing world to catch up.

china is too haughty, too imperialistic. they dont even trust their own people. a country that's so huge, and growing powerful should not be controlled by a handful.

look at what an idiot at the helm can do - george w bush. single handedly he's created a situation where USA now has spent 1 trillion dollars on a silly war which its citizens did not want!

Chinese growing economy is ruthlessly consuming the natural resources in the world. Its hunger for more energy had really put India's interest in danger .Whether its on the home front or abroad.China had been acquiring stakes and exploration rights in almost all the Oil fields in Africa and even in Western Australia.India also tried to ensure its energy security by having similar stakes in Africa under the then Petroleum Minister Manishankar Aiyer. But he was removed from the post thanks to the Communists and Madam.God save India from the Chinese
