Historians like Romilla Thappar are biased to the core and are Hindu bashing persons. I saw her article on The Hindu, in which she asserts that the Lanka mentioned in the epic Ramayana is not the present SriLanka. In her article she conveniently omits the places mentioned in Ramayana in far south, for instance, Sabarimala in Kerala, where Sabari(who was given salvation by Lord , Ram) lived ,Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu which is the starting point of the sethu(bridge) where Lord Rama installed a Shiva Linga and worshipped. River Pampa, which flowed alongside the Monkey Kingdom of Kishkintha . Also there is no mention of the Srilankan epic Mahavamsa dating back to 200 years before the time of Asoka the Mauryan, during the times of King Vijaya of Lanka. The ancient capital of Sri Lanka was Anuradhapura. There is definitely sanskrit names and influences in the island before the times of Emperor Asoka and also mention of Lanka in Mahavamsa which narrates the history of the island before Asoka's times. Just because King Vijaya (500 BCE?) named the island Tamraparni and in one Asokan inscription the island was called Tamraparni one cannot conclude that the island's name was Tamraparni and not Lanka. So people who blame some historians as biased and proponents of Hindutwa must know the real face of these kind of Hindu bashing historians too.

This is exactly what i am saying !!! In india the historians won't analyse Vedas, Purans etc and search for foreigner's narrations. But rest of the world they do research on stories and epics too. Otherwise Abraham is not history but a myth only. Also to understand the history of ancient India knowledge of sanskrit is essential, She had stated openly that she does'nt know sanskrit. This is the reason she is failing to understand the history of ancient India. For eg, the capital of Kosala at the time of Bimbisara the Magadhan Emperor was not Ayodhya. This proves that Ramayana predates Emperor Bimbisara mentioned in history (550 BCE) If a thorough analysis of Kalidasa and others' works are made it is almost certain that the great poet's time predates that of Gupta Emperor Chandragupta 2 and the legendary Vikramaditya of Avanti(Malwa) was not Chandragupta 2.
The Lord surveyed the Ram Setu and said "Hanumant, how diligently and strenuously you and your vanara sena had built this bridge several centuries back. And they mistook the name of your tribe to mean that you were all monkeys! It is remarkable that the bridge has withstood the ravages of the climatic and geographical changes over centuries. It is indeed an amazing feat especially considering the fact that a bridge over land at Hyderabad built by Gammon using latest technology collapsed the other day even before they could stick the posters on its pillars."

It is very sorry to note that people are fighting over the wrong issue. The reason is that the politicians have diverted our attention over the religious aspect and trying to divert us from the actual issue. The real issue is whether we need the sethusamudram project itself. What is the purpose and whom is it going to serve? None. It is a sheer wast of public money by a bunch of stupid politicians who want to rake in some money out of the project. Whether Ram is a reality or not is a matter of faith. If one believes it he/she stands for it and not at the whims and fancy of other peoples comments.
Get into the real aspect friends, these so called fellows are trying to waste the public money on a wasteful project, not 10 or 20 it is Rs. 2500 crores and there will be maintence cost again additionally which will work out to around 50-100 crores every year. There will be no benifit to the shipping companies in any manner, instead it will only increase the cost for them and hence whom are they building it for. Your hard earned money accumulated through various taxes are being eated away by the politicians. Don't get carried away but the religious provacations.

Economic development - my foot. In the name of economic development, you only see everything stolen from common man enriching the politicians and select conmen.
And the end of it, the government goes and buys some weapons and gives away all the hard earned money to the developed countries. In those deals also they steal and leave the money in swiss accounts.

Yes, this is the only monument in the world which has been created by non-human being & that too thousands of years ago.
We do not need so called economic development by destroying the soul of our faith.
1. Politicians know that the Hindhu's have faith and for sure they have planned to hurt them.
2. They can boost their own economy. Saying Secret of my Wealth--Sethu project.
Can't they find alternate solution for sethu project without touching the bridge?
Or I feel they are concentrating more on breaking the bridge of faith rather than constructing sethu project.
The sethu project has become a tool or a weapon to break the bridge of faith
And I feel any thing that destroys or wounds. any particular religion faith can be so called as economic development.
Rather I would suggest the well wishers of economic development to first concentrate on villages and towns where 1000's of projects are not even initiated.
