Think of Germany
by Hans Solo on Sep 23, 2007 10:20 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Its like Germany after world war I. They too did a huge turnaround with all the buildings and productions only to start another WW.

China has not forgeton the Japanese attack and they are rising to revenge that humiliation. They could very well attack Japan right now but they knew too well that Japs will receive American support. SO they are waiting and getting very strong in every field.

But if it has to attack Japs then it will first need to have a strong resoveirs of resources (labourers, Gold, metals). Thats where India comes into the picture. They will first get North lands of India before attacking Japs.

Ofcourse these are all worst case scenarios, but China is fast moving towards that.

Chinese Propaganda
by S J on Sep 23, 2007 09:21 AM  Permalink

Yes, I am calling the spade a spade. Chinese agents CPI CPIM are doing everything to stop the nuclear deal. There are a lot of intelligent people in India, who see Chinese intentions. There is a lot of resentment in India about China. This is chinese attempt to by some PR, and Sheela Bhat has walked right into the Chinese TRAP!!

China is cornering all oil reserves, is cornering all uranium reserves, opposing any chance india has in the nuclear deal. So how can we be friendly with this country. These are masters of backstabbing.

Dear Sheela Bhatt,

I don't know if you read the messages in reader response in rediff since so many of them are just 'hate mails' by fascist segments of our NRI ( and written in terrible english of course) I admire your willingness to write openly and without being politically correct. Keep it up.

Great Wall was a Strategic Failure
by Shivkumar Singh on Sep 22, 2007 09:07 PM  Permalink

The Chinkies ran helter shelter when Qublai's hoardes neared the wall.

Chinese were losers not only to Mongolians but also to the Japs.

It is only the Indians that were poorly led by Congress jokers that the Chunkies whipped. If we had superior leadership, 1962 would have resulted in freedom of Tibet and Xinkiang.

China is the future
by Anurag Shrivastava on Sep 22, 2007 08:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Its a well known fact that the Chinese have the highest average IQ as a nation - 105 ( which is the same as Japs ); the average IQ of Americans is 98 and reducing because of the population of Hispanics and African-Americans increasing fast.

This IQ difference is going to take America back and China forward. ( for the records - current measurements of Indian IQ is 85 - which with better nutrition will rise to 92 by end of century and stagnate then )

India will beat China on the long run.India has been failed by it's govt but will be saved by private enterprise.Self sustaining growth comes from private enterprise and private enterprise is where India will beat china. Not because Indians are any smarter, just that the advantage
of English language allows Indians to have a far deeper interaction with the advanced western societies. That's one reason Indians will find it much easier to come to speed with new innovations & technologies in the western world and and will adapt it faster for domestic growth.Proliferation of knowledge source Internet and medium of knowledge exchange english will make sure that Indians will catch up to 21st century faster. It's that simple really.

You are wrong - Indian will certainly grow but the gap between India and China will increase. India has a huge challenge on quality of human resources. China has no such issues.

Don't have such dreams buddy...

To understand how far China has gone you have to visit them. Lack of democracy bothers not many poor over there, because they see tremendous growth and they know their turn will come within the next decade.

While China does lack democracy and people's voice is muzzled, I don't believe that the transition, when (not if) it happens, will not bring down the Chinese state. Skills, infrastructure once built tend to sustain an economy irrespective of minor blips.

I am not saying India will not do well, but, it won't _beat_ china. We have missed that bus.

It is a picy that still you dont realise and understand. Having lived most of my time during the last decade in China, I feel sorry that our people still talk like the Indian Cricket team of winning the World Cup but to be out from the list in the first round itself. One aspect we have to admit is India is ruined by polticians, spending billions of dollars a year for rallies, fighting the opponents, mid-term polls etc. Unless this stops, Indian will not improve and only some private handful of highly connected businessmen will rule the country. How many brands of anything sell in India? Only a handful? Means only a few mega factories and industries live in India. You have to see China. Thousands of brands of anything sells here. This means thousands of factories and industries thrive here.

In India businessmen make at least 30% margin for each deal and in China the companies work for 3% to 5% max. No wonder the price of the products are cheaper. When do you think Indian will overtake China? Industrially India was better off 25 years back. Who destroyed it? Our politicians, strike by workers etc. Now China has become the ruler of economy of at least Asia. It will continue at least till 2050.

Although I wish India become a super economic power at least in Asia. But our politicians will not allow it. Indians also have to change from going in for cheap items to buying standard products. Hope one day it will happen.

When u go look at the infrastructure ofcourse china is ahead and will remain so for sometime.Don't forget that they liberalized 1 decade earlier.ButI am talking about the long run.If you read history and understand human nature u will realize that deeper interaction with advanced socities leads to a fast track growth for the more backward society. The most brightening aspect of Indian growth story is that it has large pool of students & professionals interacting with western countries at the cutting edge technology level. They are founding companies in US now, their acquaintances will found companies in India in future. The real skill is acquiring the knowhow and that's where India is already beating the chinese.Only recently number of graduate students to US from India surpassed China and it's accelerating further due to growth of Internet and access to information. This trend is very healthy the impact of which will be felt for generations to come.

I live and work in China.....Beleive me, India is atleast 20 years behind China!! Yes, I agree Indians speak English....but language has nothing to do with development.....Indian govt is corrupt and inept......The oppsition is always looking to scuttle major projects and there is always some issue to keep people squabbling....religion helps in garnering votes.
Too much democracy hinders progress and this is what is happening in India
We need clean and good roads....when will this happen???!!

I hope someday things start looking up for the common man.India has a long way to go.......

Its not real China..
by vivek singhal on Sep 22, 2007 11:37 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The problem with India is its so called intellectual people, they never go to vote, they visit overseas countries once in a while n start licking the foreign ass at the drop of a hat.

India's biggest curse is, as always, its politicians n intellectuals.

just because, China is hosting Olympics games, hundreds and thousands of young toddlers were forced throughout the country years before to start preparing for the games, if you read about their life, its grueling -18 hours a day practice 7 days a week, if that is the price to pay to get a Gold Medal, your whole childhood n youth, then we don't want any of such medals, No Thanks!! We are better off without it.

I have tremendous respect for china, simply because its one of the very few nations like India, which has 4/5,000 years of history behind, infact we have quite a parallet system such as we have yoga n Ayurveda, they have ti-chi, we have vastu n they have Feng-Shui etc etc, we have own culture system n they have their own, some time just reflecting back to us, n their religion which is mostly Buddhist is also derived from India.
They respect India a lot but when we will start respecting our own country? That is a BIG question?

To whom I vote.
a) I don't have right to select my PM, President.
b) I only send a person to Elected body to act as bounded labour, Every MP or MLA act for his / her party under party guideline. Till this how come we can get right persons to power.
c) Party 'A'is bad, Party A's Candidate is 'X' who is good. Party 'B' is good, Party B's candidate 'Y' is bad. Now tell me whom should I Vote. If I vote X then i am getting BAD party in power. If I vote Y then I am sending a BAD person to elected body.
Please solve my problem.

Vivek,
I respect your feelings towards our Motherland, but you have to accept that what is written by the writer is close to truth. Just like India, China too has two sides - urban (which is mostly described in this article) and rural (its still not as bad as India). What we Indians have to realise that we are very emotional and still remember the embarasment we suffered from China in 1962. In China you will be surprised many people dont even remember about it. They simply look at Western countries to benchmark and improve themselves. India does get respect mainly because of Buddism and our recent IT related leadership.
I have lived in China for the past 2 years or so to tell all this.
I personally feel democracy is for educated people and somehow our politicians are so corrupt, money minded and power centric that we are lagging behind in most areas. Hope lies with enterpreneurs like Narayan Murthy, Ratan Tata, Mahindras etc...
