there is no reason why mrs. Ambika Soni or for that matter the UPA govt. should feel defensive about the affidavit. I do not find anything wrong with the affidavit . Religious faith is something private and personal and I do not understand how the affidavit hurts the sentiments. Is Lord Ram any different from Lord Brahma, Vishnu, Shankar, Parvati, Saraswati, Indra etc. ? In this context of mythology-religion the affidavit is very much a statement of fact and the affidavit is worded perfectly. It is really unfortunate that the Congress Party as much if not more as the BJP is trying to politicize the issue. The fact of the matter is that the HINDUS in general, whether in south or in north India have not reacted any adversely on the matter to the rabble rousing and emotion whipping by the politicians. There is a wrong perception in north India that Ram is not as revered or worshipped in south as in north and that is why there is no public outcry. It is totally wrong perception. In fact the Ram name is more prevalent in south India than in north India. I think it is time our country moves ahead with the development agenda rather than getting mired in retrograde politics.

Instead of deposing that Rama, Rama Sethu and Ramayana do not have historical evidence, the government should have maintained that being hoary they are far beyond the range of the existing history which has its own limitations. A historian who cannot go beyond a certain point of time in the past, cannot just say: Behind me, deluge. He can't dogmatically argue that no culture or civilization had existed earlier.
They are spreading panic and superstition in society. The Ram Sethu was one example of their sensationalisation and inciting the masses. Priya Ranjan Das Munshi must pass the broadcast bill immediately so TV channels
1) do not show same stories again and again 2) do not show any program which is agains constitutional requirement to promote secularism 3) TV will not allow anyone opposed to secularism to come on TV 4) TV will abide with government guidelines which issues related to religion or caste come up in public domain Most English channels abide by the above code - but Hindi channels promote superstition and are anti-secular . They incite masses to get higher TRPs. I watch both Hindi and English channels and this observation can be certified.
Priya Ranjan - please wake up before it is too late. The recent case of Hindi channel making a fake sting is just tip of the iceberg.

Most Enlish channels and some Hindi channels are owned by foreigners (including one by Al Jajeera)Naturally they are all Anti-Hindu.

English channels are fair and balanced. Unfortunately even the sister channel of CNNIBN - IBNLive is really bad because they have to compete with pathetically right wing and biased Channels like Star News , Aj Tak , Zee News etc . The ownership details put in by some joker is all hogwash and utter crap - all channels have Indian editorial and news staff

IBN-CNN receives much of its funding from Christian Baptist organizations in the USA. Hence, their coverage tends to be more negative when it comes to Hindu issues. The CNN tends to be blatantly pro-christian, especially its special reports from around the world. Their counterpart IBN in India does basically what the CNN tells them to do - otherwise, no money.
On the main page, your list of headlines says - 'Soni offers to resign'. Following the link to this page, the headline here says 'Ram Sethu: Culture minister summoned to 10, Janpath'. Nowhere is it mentioned that Soni wants to resign. Is this just stupid carelessness or what?
YOU SHOULD KNOW , THE DRAMA ON EXISTENCE OF RAM IS BRAINCHILD OF SONIA. NOW GOING OUT OF HAND SONI WILL BE DELIVERED SOME PUNISHMENT. GURU CHELI PLANNING. WHEN INDIANS WILL UNDERSTAND THAT THE LEADERS SHOULD BE THEIR OWN NOT IMPORTED. THROW AWAY CONGRESS WHICH IS IMPOSING WHICH CAN NOT EVEN PROMOTE OWN LEADER.
