Instead of deposing that Rama, Rama Sethu and Ramayana do not have historical evidence, the government should have maintained that being hoary they are far beyond the range of the existing history which has its own limitations. A historian who cannot go beyond a certain point of time in the past, cannot just say: Behind me, deluge. He can't dogmatically argue that no culture or civilization had existed earlier.
