Most Corrupt,
by fanie on Sep 09, 2007 10:22 PM  Permalink

During TDP's rule Hyderabad was in news for all good reasons where as now its in news for all types of worst things like mass corruption, land encroachment, murders, dacoites and more importantly terrorism.

This bas-tad YSR is running the most corrupt government which one would have never witnessed in any part of world.Even scams in which central government is involved stands nowhere before scams happening in A.P.

Presedential rule should be implemented as AP is soon heading the Bihar way.

Punjagutta Disaster
by Tapan Chakraborty on Sep 09, 2007 10:21 PM  Permalink

Was the construction work going under proper supervision? Was a Government engineer supervising the work? If so, what is his / their accountability? Is there any guarantee that the Mehdipatnam fly over will not have the same fate?
What is the cost of the human tragedy - the families which have lost their bread-winners?
Will another enquiry be set up and people rounded up and harrassed on the basis of mere suspicion ?

by faheemtheduke on Sep 09, 2007 10:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This bridge was supposed to built by last year by the famous company Gammon India Pvt Ltd. Every day we used to follow this route to go to high tech city and everyday we used to take more than 1/2 hour because of this bridge even on the bike.the soul reason, they were late by almost 1 year. 1st we thought, ok, no problem, after this bridge is over we will have a nice time but we never knew this company is using such material and the technology to build the bridge. it will collapse in a rain? my god, in rain...more than 15 guys died. how can we think abt using this brige agin. this company was black listed first by the government for being late but later we came to know that they have remoeved its black listing. now what this government will do???

worst of all, this was constructed using a novel technology(as boasted!!!!). I do not know how it was open to the public before it was inaugurated. Anyways, the constructors could have tested it thoroughly and then should have opened to public.

How long is the fly-over?
by SR Hari on Sep 09, 2007 10:17 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Your report says the fly-over is 11 KM long. Was it a typo and is the actual length of the bridge 1.1 KM ? Whatever be the length, it's sad to see so many lives being lost in the accident.

Some of the Telugu TV Channels and NDTV to some extent is flashing the regn. nos of the cars that are caught in the accident. The RTO officials gave the names of the owners of the cars based on the regn. nos. I don't remember seeing this name in the list. I hope your friend is safe by HIS grace.

Just thinking of the accident is sending shivers . I know it is too narrow towards punjagutta traffice police station side .Why there was no diversion when there was such huge structure being constructed.
Please somebody has to accountable.
Why were so many shopping malls being given permission when already it is congested area.
why there is no parallel road thought of when HITEC city was planned.

worse part of it, people are allowed to go under the flyover. Why at all in the first place, barricades were not constructed.

i totally agree with you prashant. that is one of the busiest areas of the twin cities;ridiculous planning coupled with the greediness and lack of common sense of the people involved with the construction should be held accountable. My heartfelt sympathies to all those who have been affected by this tragedy. Although accidents occur now and then, negligence should never be the basis of any. I cannot understand how experienced builders and contractors can overlook such vital issues and not take necessary precaution. I just hope this is not repeated in the future.

it is shame on our planners/rulers who have been careless, the punjagutta flyover and the PV narsimha Rao express way were never a part of the orignal master plan. Why not take to task the planners/the technical officials. It is strange to note some public servants and workers are acting like rulers and there is no service attitude. They are todays rajas & Nawabs. So this flyover plan is a dream of a nawab

speed of construction has its victims
by chandrasekhar Talluri on Sep 09, 2007 10:07 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

whenever there is a public construction activity in a busy city area engineering common sense must prevail.I saw the frantic and desperate faces of the engineers who were constructing that flyover on a sunday midnight too. That is the speed at which the government wants the agencies concernerd to complete the construction works. BUT AT WHAT COST? HUMAN LIFE IS CHEAP IN OUR COUNTRY.
