We christians strongly believe in forgiving because thats what our religion teaches us even when it comes to the murderer of our brother and not fight with swords. We believe that Lord is the ultimate judge and he can only pass punishmet
Pavement is not meant for driving. Though pavement is also not meant for sleeping, All Indians know that people use pavement at night to sleep.
As for this case goes, it was clear case of drunken driving and negligent driving. Three years is less but unfortunately law allows only that much. As per law, the convict cannot get more punishment than this.
However considering that we have opened the flood gates of drinking in our culture, there should be more strignent rules required to curb the menace. They need to increase the fines and punishment for drunken driving. Probably 3 years imprisonment for every human lives caused due to drunken driving and it is responsbile of the driver to prove that he is innocent to give him the benefit of doubt in case of vehicle failure. Though we cannot equate value of a human life with any sort of punishments. At least there would be strong deterrent for bloody boozers for not mixing alcohol with driving.

Also divya tell me, do you always drive within 50 km/hr as that is the prescribed limit...What if you are driving at 55 on a wide road and some reckless guy crosses and you hit himm...?????????????

Thats not what happened here however. The scenario is simple. Is Alistair guilty or not? He is as guilty as hell and no one other than him are to blame. If as you claim he was not mature enough then he should not have been driving under influence. Accountability has to be assigned as per his action. In any case if you are hitting people on the road it probably means that you don't have control in any case. There is no court in the world that will support you when you can say that you were driving at 55 and a reckless guy crossed so you hit him, unitil and unless you can prove that he was jaywalking. In any case in India jaywalking laws are non-existent

anuj if some how can you equate a reckless guy crossing the road and soemone hitting him, and alistair who was heavily drunk and runs over people on the pavement. it seems you are related to pereiera.

Guys, have you ever tried to put yourself in the shoes of drivers ever...I have...Believe me its a nightmare om BOMBAY road...HOW ON EARTH can you expect to see people to be sleeping on pavement or roads especially when the street lights are not working...Yes I agree he deserves punishment for drunk driving....But that's it. HE IS NOT A KILLER

As Government is allowed sell liquor and like things with Government permission drunken driving is not illegal. Stop selling voine and liquor totally in India and any other like products which will destroy the control of human brain. Let us oppose wine, liquor etc. with great protest. Let our income be very less but people be healthy. Healthy and right thinkers will be more productive for nation as well as for entire family.

What a logic man, so the blame is on street lights are not working and people sleeping in the pavements. Forget about sleeping, this could have even happened if people are walking on the pavements, because the driver is drunk and over speeding. Think if this would have heppened with your brother, sister, friend or some relatives, I am sure that this logic will be proved wrong to you

Thats exactly what I said...3 years punishment for drunk driving..Thats it..What could have happened is a completely baseless question....What could have happened if Patel was our 1st PM?? I mean dont go into that....You would have driven rash at some point in your life which could have killed people....

you cant see only if dont have the headlights working for your vehicle and not just beacuse street lights arent working.
Please understand we are in India... its very easy to write from the comfort of your airconditioned office/home. But see the other side of the coin also. People do not love to sleep on pavements or roads, they sleep there bcoz they can't afford luxary me & u r having... The fact remains Alister was drunk and he was mature enough to know that his action of driving rash after drinks can be dangeruos for others. Many of those killed were sole bread winner for some families, think a bit about them also.
He should be punished with minimum of life sentence (this too as he may claim and court will uphold that he was unaware of his actions) if not death penalty.

I disagree, Alister wasnt mature enuf...Do you think the kind of life he was leading he knew how heinous it could become....If at all, his parents dereve sentence more than him

Anuj, It doesn't sound very convincing that he was not mature... Yes I agree with u, if the court declare him mentally unsound then his parents must be taken to task for giving him so much of luxary and freedom to kill.....
If Sunjay Dutt got 6 years sentence for not harming (let alone killing!) a single person, then by that yardstick Alister Pereira who has taken 7 innocent lives should have got a much harsher sentence than merely 3 years. Proves my point that the judgement in Sunjay Dutt's case has been unfair and disproportionate to the 'crime' committed by the actor. He is being targetted only because of his 'star' status, and I have little doubt that the SC will reduce his sentence.

which nation do you and rajesh ray belong to. salman khan will get ( if he is punished) a smaller term in killing people on the road where as a bigger term in killing a chinkara. do you mean to say in one case he is from the majority and in the other he is from the minority. till thackeray helped him to get bail, sanjay dutt used to say that he was targeted because of his mother being a muslim.

Possessing a weapon is a crime. Involving others is a bigger crime than that. Sanjay was in possession of a weapon. He involved 3 of his friends in another crime by takin their help in destroying the weapon. Sanjay clearly deserves punishment. Sanjay crime comes under Criminal activities. Alistar's case comes under Traffic law. Traffic law is little lenient though it is not justifiable in all cases.
