and the Arabs stop giving it to us , we should look at alternative energy sources and nuclear energy is one of them. Left is playing with the future of India. Granted that nuclear energy cannot solve all the problems but it will solve atleast a few of our problems. Congress should talk with BJP for this matter and get the deal passed as soon as possible. We cannot let the pro-china Left dictate to us on this sensitive issue.
Rice is pushing an ambiguous agreement upon which problems are bound to occure later on when Rice is long gone.
US is doing best to suck India into a tricky N-deal,which would enslave India.
US is intensifying the pressure on India from all quarters , even though there is no obligation on India to buy.
Can you imagin what US will do once US gets India's signature on the sign N-deal.India will not have a prayer.Don't sign your freedom away. India has done business with Russians for 60 years. I don't understand why India does not consider buying civilian nuclear technology from Russia instead ?

Yes, the nuclear '123' deal is very fishy. Most rediff and other readers don't know anything about the subject (I too don't know much of it, I'm a civil engineer) but go on barking to 'hang commies', to 'go on the progressive path by shaking hands with USA' and that the 'Communists receive commands from China', etc. What is the most important thing is to achieve self sustenance if not now in the near future. The very point (apart from scientific issues) that Rice, NRIs, George W. Bush... stand in the queue to convince India to say yes to the deal can be point of suspicion. I think India will go ahead with 123 agreement since people are fools.

Russia clearly said it need NSG approval for further reactors, if we want NSG approval how will be getting it? can you think of a solution? I don't think you will come up with one as you did not understand it fully, if this deal goes though we will get the NSG approval with USA backing it, then even if USA backs out we will have France, Russia to help us out but if this deal is not through be ready to suffer.

If Russia is willing to sell nuclear plants and tecnology, which they would love to for cash money,NSG is not going to be a problem per se. All NSG is concerned is to make sure that IAEC guidelines are met. This can be accomplished by separating civilian from military nuclear technologies ,so civilan nuclear fuel is not diverted for military applications,as inked in the 123 agreement. Then the obvious question arises why not to go with the 123 agreement. The answer is simple,USA is not a trustworthy, reliable, reputable country with good intentions to do business with.

Do you know why the Koodankulam project's expansion is on hold? do you know how much threat they faced when they went ahead with deal? for your info "Russia contends that the Koodankulam deal was originally signed in 1988 and is therefore not subject to the 1992 NSG guidelines" if you want you can see R. Adam Moody article titled , "The Indian-Russian Light Water Reactor Deal," The Nonproliferation Review, Fall 1997, pp. 112-122.
USA is not as reliable as Russia, but when this agreement gets through we can get the technology, equipment and so on from others like Russia, France because when we get the go from NSG we will be able to sigh agreement with others. do you think at-least for this to happen we got to go ahead with the deal with USA?

INdia is in a dilemma. We are loser either way. If we let go the deal then there are certain ways to look about it and say it is lost. If we accept it we would enslave ourselves to Americans and Americans precisely wants us to be in such a situation. So either way we are losing.

Any deal envisages something which we should be prepared to lose in order to gain something, that is the art of negotiation. Of course we should not compromise on key points and we have not compromised on the keypoints on this deal. US is pretty much breaking up NPT in this deal ? Don't you think they are compromising too ? It is a win-win situation for both India and US. Do you want a free lunch ?

yes killed million but if any other person was at char during WW2, Europe will be talking different language. Russia would have been in a far worse state today. Don't bring Mr.Vladimir Putin here, if Mr.Stalin had not shifted the heavy industries do you think they would have managed to develop?
Actually, the people who oppose the N-deal on grouds that it will lead to US intereferring in India are playing a counterproductive hand. If Dr. Singh had overcome his cowardice and spoken to the main opposition party on such a critical national interest issue, the US would not have been talking to Indian leaders directly. The Washington lobbyists have now set up shop in New Delhi, thanks to the Congress lack of resolve. They could have easily gotten the BJP to take their side on the N-deal, but they didn't. I fully applaud the concern with which the US is trying to do for us what we could not do for ourselves. This deal is good for us, its good for them and yet we cant take it because 1) Our PM is a career clerk who has no idea what political courage means 2) The Congress is consorting with the Left, which is a rabid pro China anti-India formation. 3) Our de facto ruler is a semi-literate woman who lacks the competence to understand words like "strategic alliance", "political consensus", etc.
USA is very much serious in making nuclear deal with India a success. For this purpose their people are meeting various leaders of our country. They met Manmohan Singh, Mr. Advani of BJP, Mr. Mukherjee and trying more and more to focus the benefits of nuclear deal with India.
It is also true that leaders like Sonia Gandhi and Mr. Manmohan Singh are also convinced that nuclear deal if operationalised will accrue many benefits to the country. Specially power generation will improve which in turn will facilitate growth of other infrastructure items and thus help in industrial growth of the country.
But the most unfortunate part is that Indian rulers, the head of UPA and the head of the government are hesitant to have transparent dialogue with BJP and other parties in the Opposition group. USA thinks it fit and wise and useful to convince Mr. Advani leader of opposition but our own leaders do not consider the dialogue with Mr. Advani as essential for the success of the deal. They give much importance to left parties on whom depend the survival of the government. They are bothered of their own post and power, not at all for the benefits to the nation.
Last but not the least the entire groups of leaders who are in favour of the deal are unwillingly or willingly maintaining mischievous silence on the question whether the Indian freedom to develop nuclear power for military use will be seized as soon as the nuclear deal is finally signed for operation and execution.

After signing the deal, MMS himself objected to several provisions in agreement. Reality will float now. India is missing a PM of the stature of Vajpayee.
India is a sovereign and a emerging super power. Why we need to listen to US all the time. We need to stand firm and demands what we need. "US stop bullying India as you bully around the world."

Since when were the leftists become care takers of India's national interest. After the initial madness..the BJP is probably coming around..hopefully we'd see this deal go through.

Do you know how much USA depend on other nations: How much brains India has contributed/ and still contributing. every nations depend on other nation for productivity. The solution is to become less dependent in other natio for technologies. why not India try to harness our own brains to up lift the country? It's time to change our mentality- always trying to serve the (colonial/ neo-colonial) masters.

do you know how much India depends on USA or European or Russian technology? The thought of self development of technology is very good on paper but not so in reality. a simple search on nuclear technology research will let you know where we stand at the world stage.

Actually, you have no idea of the extent to which we are dependent on U.S. made products. Even the much-touted Param supercomputer is built with American processors.
We must also understand that nuclear energy is only part of the deal. Unless we improve our relations with the West, we will be denied all high technology. Ask any person actively engaged in this business. India does not make any integrated circuits. Even simple military grade electronic components have to be imported.

Then nuclear power generation in India will never be a very large component. The solar power generation will overtake it much earlier along with wind. The talk that this deal will help power generation is totally false and it is the most ridiculous thing to say.For a long time to come Coal and gas generated electric power will be the the largest component.
