Uddhav I am in Calcutta. I know how people feel here. They HATE Karat. We are in favor of weighing the pros and cons , but this has gone too far. What out for the elections here when it's due.

They aren't tight lipped. The ones who are , are politicians and only politicians. as for voting for them , they voted for the sole face of CPM here - Buddhadev , who is a capitalist among the communists.

That's wrong. Perhaps you aren't as keen follower of the news as I am. In the development graphs Bengal has been only second to Gujarat for the past two years.

As for people from here ( without getting too community centric ) speaking against left , what NDTV and CNNIBN views , one owned by Pranoy Roy and the other with un-putdownable contributions from Sagarika Ghosh , but as I said , it's not just about us raising the voice... it's about the nation appreciating how egotism and not holistic consideration of the countries future can stem us out from the international map.Try logic instead of getting personal mate.

The price of pusillanimity !
by ravindran kv on Oct 25, 2007 03:56 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I dont think there is any need for fuming so much about the matter as Mr Anilkumar did. I am one of those who feel that the Indo-US treaty will be good for India in the long run. But the present political reality is such that the UPA minority government can not go ahead with it against the strong objection by the supporting parties. Dr Manmohan Singh and the Congress party have asserted time and again that they have not abandoned the idea altogether. Had the PM gone ahead with the treaty inspite of the threat by the Left, nothing would have gained by the country as the government would have collapsed and along with it the treaty. There is no assurance that the Congress or UPA will be able to muster the majority in a mid-term election. And there is no garantee that any other govt will take up the treaty. So what Dr Singh has done under the present circumstances is the correct one. There is enough time for the government to bring around the Left to see reason on the matter. As far as the credibility of the country is concerned, there is no cause to worry. The US government can not be blind to the political reality in India. We are a democracy and no govt, especially a minority govt, can not act like an autocratic or military dictator. I am sure at the end of the day the things will get cleared in favour of the country. Those who unnecessarily shout, fret and fume over the matter should calm down and view the things in its correct perspective.

The problem
by vikram pal on Oct 25, 2007 03:55 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The problem is not the left in kerala or bengal. Buddhadev and basu seem to be favoring the deal. It's the polit-bureau and the party chief that's writing their obituary. I don't think any self respecting, educated , wise Indian is Ever going to give Any left parties any leeway ever again! They are being a dumb woodhead .Sorry for the straightforwardness. Where do they think the power for industrialization and further development in villages is going to drop from ? From communist safe houses ? Man ! sorry but they suck big time.

Worse, it will damage the environment greatly .Nothingelse, and Don't forget the USA is nothing bur a FOX

What do you think the civilian nuclear technology is for ? It's for nurturing new industries and creating employment. What better way do you know to fill stomach of vast majorities than creating employment ? You got to take a closer look at the details. I don't think we should care about playing proxy to US or China as much as the future of our nation and people and for that a preset mindset isn't going to help.

Commies dont even dare to come out of the UPA alliance, they are power hungry, always they need support of Congress or Regional political parties. Their leader are playing with the lives of poor people in the name of land. I can say in the history of India communists will never rule the country on thier own strength.

Indians are welcome to elect a CPI-CPM government. However, I have a question for you. Can you name a single country that has successfully run a communisst/marxist economy. The Soviet Union collapsed in bankruptcy despite its claims of being a super-power. China abandoned communism after the death of Mao in 1976. The only surviving communist regimes are North Korea (a basket case) and Cuba (surviving on euro-cum-dollar prostitution.

For another time, we have the tyranny and genocide unleashed by communist regimes in the last century.

A deal such as this cannot be signed by a party that has only 150 seats in Parliament. A similar deal with Russia could have been signed and that could have been used to piggy back a deal with Americans as an after thought. No one would have objected.

Left bashing is not going to help
by smarajit sarkar on Oct 25, 2007 03:48 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dear net folks,
I under stand the dilemma of %u201CCyber babus%u201D , they are slaves to US for few dollars . The only thing they are doing is using abusive language and harsh personal words against left ( like Chinese chamcha) and surprisingly not against BJP. The Indo-US nuclear deal is supposed to be beneficial for India. Not as much for the US. Then why is US so-----keen on completing this deal. US is not a kind of a country which will strive so hard for other country's progress. Then why is it stressing so much on this deal. It surely must be something that is of key interest for US in this deal. They are the most selfish country in the world. Must be lot of money involved. Well, many wild things to guess but nonetheless, we should think what is in there for the US. A new military hub in India? a new dumping ground for nuclear waste, stupid American cars, goods, etc? NRI Indians will see to a complete extend that US benefits so that it is happy with them and then they are safe back there in US. So all the statements in this forum are mostly from those NRIs who have got nothing to do with Indian interest. Moreover, its a fashion statement to condemn the left amongst this NRI circles. This helps them prove their US loyalty. Congress formed to struggle to eradicate imperialism from India. Manmohan Singh struggles to bring back imperialism in India. So %u201CChamchas of US%u201D , undemocratic (majority of parliamentarian think deal is not good for India) capitalists,
