I dont think there is any need for fuming so much about the matter as Mr Anilkumar did. I am one of those who feel that the Indo-US treaty will be good for India in the long run. But the present political reality is such that the UPA minority government can not go ahead with it against the strong objection by the supporting parties. Dr Manmohan Singh and the Congress party have asserted time and again that they have not abandoned the idea altogether. Had the PM gone ahead with the treaty inspite of the threat by the Left, nothing would have gained by the country as the government would have collapsed and along with it the treaty. There is no assurance that the Congress or UPA will be able to muster the majority in a mid-term election. And there is no garantee that any other govt will take up the treaty. So what Dr Singh has done under the present circumstances is the correct one. There is enough time for the government to bring around the Left to see reason on the matter. As far as the credibility of the country is concerned, there is no cause to worry. The US government can not be blind to the political reality in India. We are a democracy and no govt, especially a minority govt, can not act like an autocratic or military dictator. I am sure at the end of the day the things will get cleared in favour of the country. Those who unnecessarily shout, fret and fume over the matter should calm down and view the things in its correct perspective. K.V.Ravindran
