i do not know. but about kolkata i know, lioved there for long. here are the vignettes. all buses are private, rundown, means extremely rundown. somehow they run.rude conductor, speeding driver, kill atleast two people a day. govt buses are there, more in depot than on the roads. why? CITU UNION WUD NOT ALLOW THE LABOR TO WORK IN DEPOT. THEY DRAW SALAR, AND DO OUTSIDE WORK, UNDER THE GUISE OF UNION WORK. recently they bought new luxury buses, in six months they have become rundown, dirty, and parts stolen by union thieves. any one can challenge this.
anyone who is driving a bus and is paying 5k (let us say) to the owner...he has to be fast to make atleast 8k for a day...
where will his money goes (3k he earned) 1. salary for conductors 2. salary for cleaner 3. salary for hawkers (ppl who shout at every bus stand to attract max passengers) 4. Hafta to police 5. regular bribes at Transport corporation 6. regular bribes to Traffic police 7. regular bribes to licensing/registring authorities 8. varoius fess at nakas 9. repairs for bus (any minimal) 10. leftover money to his home..
now i would say any driver under these circumstances would like to drive fast...carry max passengers in any possible way...work overtime...
now who is to take responsibility.... should be the ones who created this policy...should amend it as soon as possible...
who can put pressure for overhauling of concerned... WE PEOPLE

Dude, I agree with ur points. But We do not lack policies or rules. We have enough of them. But we have severe problem in following the rules. We takes things for granted. We dont have the value for the life of people. We are all busy in making fast money and dreaming luxury life.
I am a blue line bus owner and would like to bring to light related to the topic covered by rediff today .. 1. The money earned by a bus is mentioned as 7000-8000 per day, can this rediff reporter check the govt records of DTC buses and confirm this. I don't expect a forum like rediff to quote wrong figures , which are just around coz ppl want blue lines to look bad 2. The politicians would not fall for such paltry incomes , when they have bigger sources of income. 3.The owners of these buses are middle class ppl who are just running some small business like shops in Delhi. Just that shops are in shapes of buses. 4. People often accuse the owners. But when owners contract the buses , they dont tell the Drivers in the morning - " Go and get me 2 dead bodies today for MunnaBhai's medical class" Its like a shopkeers giving the responsibility of the shops security to one of his workers and he leaves the shop open and forgets to unlock and leave for the day. Who is the culprit , the servant or the OWNER. 5. The real culprit is the traffic police. They are bribed by contractors and they dont do their duties. And when accidents happen , ppl blame the owners. The buses are impounded. The owners lose their livelihood , the drivers just have a case and they move on to drive others buses and call center cabs etc. The real culprit are the drives , their licenses should be cancelled and they should not be allowed to drive. The owners get reprimanded

Dear Blue line bus owener, so u pass the fault on driver and contractor, and they pass it on to another one. Ultimately, poor, innocent people who struggle to make their penny for life will die. Why cant u check the bus everyday, like the presence of speed governer, miles on it for the day, ware and tare, surprise check, etc. Man where there is will there is a way. Here nobody is against the blue line bus. Ofcourse it cannot kill. Only the drivers, owners and mainly contractors are the people on mission to kill while making more money.

I would not agree with you on abdicating responsibility for running your shop. If the gaurd forgets to lock the store its your duty as a owner that the guard is taken to task. If 10 of you refuse to pay the bribes to cops that would reduce corruption. I know its easier to talk then to implement but someway has to be worked out to save lives. Do this and lets see if it works In all your buses put an ad in the back which says "If this driver is driving rash call this number to report". Cut the drivers salary based on each day or each hour of bad driving. Of course they will have unions which they should rightfully have. Convince the Union folks that this will help remove the tarnished image of the drivers. Let everyone understand there is 100% chance that one of their own Kith and Kin may get killed in these rash drivings. The solution is not 100% foolproof. but will help you atleast 5% to overcome the woes you mentioned. Lastly as owners you are responsible for these buses end to end. Please take this as a humble suggestion and nothing else. We have the power to make our lives better by being responsible for our actions

Additionaly try to give the drivers some bonusses every month for each month of good driving.
Also you should not ask the name of the person who will call you to report the rash driver.

Dear Mr Blue star bus owner, once you own a bus it is your duty to make sure that your shop in the shape of bus is running as it should by the law It is your duty to lay a law that all my buses should be run according to the rule of the bus services licensees terms and conditions. can I ask one thing after this accident and other accidents by blue line how many times have yo checked that the bus you hire out to the contractor is abiding by the law. I think you have never even thought of doing this let alone doing it I have worked for the world class bus transport that is London Transport which runs nearly 7 thousand buses across the city the bus service that runs from Uxbridge to Shepherds Bush total route length about 14km bus no 427 passes my house this bus route alone earns 12 million UK pound a year and runs like a dream and a world class underground railway, come and learn a lesson from the they will show you how bus service is and should be run. RS 7000 to 8000 is peanuts earning in a day by Blue line I think it is double that otherwise it is not possible to run a bus service with any lower income then that. you will go bankrupt in an hour.Come on be a man and come clean admit that you are just as guilty as other involved and that you do earn more the what is specified here in the article. If you are not ready to admit or will not admit then there is only one word to describe you that is " LAIR"

It is NOT KILLING HINDUS,it is killing members of general public, a chunk of metal does not have feeling nor it know any Religion, Cast Color or Creed. It does not know any race. It is a deadly weapon in wrong hands thats all it is. Number one culprit is police, I lived in delhi for 7 years. And since 7 year I am watching blue line buses breaking rules. They over speed, they are molest women, they are kind of gundas and above all we have enuch police and politician who not dare to stop them. Police's erection is already stopped by low salaries and bribes so Indian public do not any faith in Police and judiciary system. Well you write that many big fish owns blue line buses, but rediff you too a kind of enuch, you can not dare to write these big fish names. If media behaves like such timid then we should not hope that things going to be change.

The only solution to these problems that the country is facing is 1. First award one death sentense to the contractor who forses the driver to drive fast and execute the death sentense within 24 hrs. So no contractors will forse the drivers to drive fast. 2. Second is to give 10 yrs rigourous imprisonment to drivers who kill on roads by driving fast. So that no one will encouraged to join blue line buses or execute duty under pressure. 3. Third is to bring the owener to light and check his tax and property related documents. I am sure he is one of the currupt, smelling M.o.. r F..u c..ker politician of the country. Give him such a sentense so that no body hence forth dare to buy illegal things and play with the innocent people. Though I sound crazy.. and harsh. Trust me it is ok to be like me than killing the innocents in day light for making more money. We Indians are lacking these qualities. We think it is not a botheration till it affects us. But for sure if everyone takes it to the heart and does protests by taking some off time from their regular job. India can be easily cleaned off from these dirtly ass holes. But the true story is, we fight on caste, region, appeasement, and also supporting ugly politicians who doesnt even give damn shit about our comments and views in any forum. I respect your attitude to change the country for good. But killing everyone is not the correct way. There must be someone in family/friends/relatives or someone you know who doesn't demonstrates Indianess. 100 million of us don't demonstrate that. Do we kill everyone?

Just boycott the blue line buses.Even for the a day will hit them hard in the pocket. a month or tow will surely make them think and a year will surly make them bankrupt. secondly arrest the chief of police of Delhi for failing to police the roads properly to the correct speed limits and observe the law of transport.. arrest the head municipal council for not providing proper bus stops and providing licenses for those with out any regards of law. Give them a quick sharp shock with a court ruling within 24 hours and sending them for a long term in prison with harsh labor. let them break a ton of stone before the get there meals no ton no meal. surely they will think twioce next time if there is a next time.

vision 2020 and so on. He looks very optimistic to me. But just with optimism and no action from our part makes no sense. So Please remember Swami vivekananda's statement and get up this is the high time for ur resolute and make India a better place to live.
The cream and Red the M.S.R.T.C(State Transport Maharashtra) is best be it speed or reaching destination. And one more plus point is they are very punctual compare to neigbouring transport corporation. But 2 things they need implement 1)They have same age old model they have make it in new model like APSRTC and KSRTC Express buses. Now a days i can see they stopped plying Ashok Leyland buses this is sorry state. Leyland buses are good buses be it in sound or fastness.
We have been hearing about this accidents by killer buses every day . but why cant any one ask the names of there owner , thier drivers and no of cases files by police and ammount of compansation paid by contrator or owner of this buses under RIT act. plz tell me how one can do that.
Hundreds of crores of rupees are wasted in our country for various purposes. Why not purchase 2000-3000 DTC buses and boot these blueline ones. The Delhi govt. will not do this because from politicians to cops all are earning money from them. In fact our politicians/ cops do not have any feeling for the people they serve.

If they do that then 1. How politican will drive a 50L cars, 2. How they will enjoy the blue night in the 5 star hotel, 3. How they will spend crores of rs on their son/daughter marriage, 4. How they will go for a foreign trip 5. Where they will stay bunglow or govt flat 6. How they will get increase the Vote bank 7. How they will make property, shopping complex 8. How they will support their family/frineds who have a history of murders/rape. 9. How they will make communal crash
