Lost Paradise
by Vivek H on Oct 17, 2007 10:10 AM  Permalink

Saying in our books is "swayamewa mrigendrata". I recently watched the movie - "seven years in Tibet" - Gosh how can this beautiful place with so peaceful people be destroyed. My heart goes out for them.
We need to learn a lesson here - truth is, people will respect you only when you are strong. had out government then not gone ahead with nuclear test, we would not have been in a good position today(with respect to nuclear energy).
Had Ashoka lost the war and then lamented about dead soilders, people would have laughed at him. That is a sad truth.

Both UN & USA dont have any guts to talk against China as both are under the mercy of China in many ways. China will straight-away say to USA "mind your own business, dont interfere in China's internal affairs". USA is well aware of this and that's why keep it's mouth shut. China is the only country against which USA can't do anything bcoz USA economy is totally under the mercy of China. Americans will not make their life into hell by interfereing into China.

Burma and Tibet
by ali shahanshah on Oct 17, 2007 09:44 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Burma is a neighbouring country whom we cannot annoy at the cost of western influence. The Burmese are comfortable with the Chinese as they awarded them the gas exploration rights. In Burma we have more people of Indian origin who are engaged in various trades.Despite this fact we Have not been able to bring about a friendly economic balance with country which China has!
Tibet is Paradise Lost!! and Paradise gained in India and other parts of the world. As of today Tibetans are moore comforatble living as refugees than living in Tibet! The clamouring and protests are fully justified but are like acceptance with a protest!Francois Gautier writes therefore he exists, everyone has to make a living! It will be prudent if Francois gautier visits both the regions and gets first hand reports rather than report on hearsay and filed stories. He will earn the respect of bothe the Burmese and the Sino- Tibetan people.

We have peculiar foreign policy. Almost all our neighbours are unhappy with us. China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Tibet, Burma, and now new regime of Nepal.

On the other hand China has excellent relationship with all these countries and making effort to improve ties with India.

There is a need to review our foreign policy and see to it that in next one or two decades we have more friendly neighbours. This is a must if we have to become a major global player.

Kudos Aftab
I can't agree more with you. I'm a common man with no background on iternational relations or foriegn policy. However since long i myself have been noticing he the same about India's not so friendly relations with any of its neighbors. We do not slect the best of available brains in our foriegn office (or for any of the other offices). Indian intelligence is active in gathering information on opposition parties and their leaders.

Whether we agree or NOT, truth/reality is a truth/reality. India's relationship with it's neighbours are going bad to worse every year bcoz of the ministers/officials handling the foreign affairs. Ministers keep those officials who will just node their head whatever Minister says. We lost our ex-primeminister Rajiv Gandhi bcoz of the politicians and officials only; some stupid officials/ministers (who knew NOTHING about Srilankan problems) were entered/involved in the Srilankan problem, created all the mess and thereby triggered the 1991/05/21 incident. To become a Minister in India, we dont need to have any intelligence, just to know how to play politics. So, let's pay the penalty in the International stage.

NORTHERN BURMA IS CHINA
by srinivas iragavarapu on Oct 17, 2007 09:28 AM  Permalink

Tibetan population under stress is migrating to northern Burma. More and more refugees from Tibet will migrate to Burma. The Tibetans in Burma are interested in business. Business is China. So Burma is China.

Tibetan monks and tibetan people must not lose there heart ! they have to follow gandhian philosophy "I know the path. It is straight and narrow. It is like the edge of a sword. I rejoice to walk on it. I weep when I slip. God's word is: 'He who strives never perishes.' I have implicit faith in that promise. Though, therefore, from my weakness I fail a thousand times, I will not lose faith, but hope that I shall see the Light when the flesh has been brought under perfect subjection, as some day it must"

The final struggle
by Xiao Grove on Oct 17, 2007 02:31 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

How long will Dalai Lama live? 10 years? 20 Years? by then, 2020 or 2030, A much stronger China will have 5 million Chinese live at Tibet, and Tibet will have interstate highway connection with the rest of China. China will have a very strong military force which will have capacity to deal with US. I believe that is the reason of two standard.

And an average chinese has an IQ which is at least 6 points more than an average American. And we are talking of 1.5 billion people having an averaged IQ of 106/107 vs 98 for Americans ( 100 for whites , 85 for blacks and 90 for Hispanic with white population decreasing ). China is the future. Everything they do will be grander and better than what Americans have done so far. Unfortunately - in this game India will never count.

The Tibetans in Lhasa are more interested in going to the bars and discos set up with the chinese than following the Dalai Lama. People in China including Tibet realise that the Chinese government is doing a great job in providing economic prosperity. They know that they are at a phase of development where "government knows best" and when they get developed, they will start getting the political freedom. Freedom from hunger is the first freedom a person seeks when he or she is born.
