I was trying to attach a weblink whihc clearly shows the maternity entitlements, but this site is automatically blocking my message. Just search maternity leave on the google and you will get the link straight away.

There is a law in India for manadatory 3 months maternity leave. No company worth its salt can do this stupidity. I am sure Rediff needs better researchers.

Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 says that Google it to read the details. I hope Rediff is better informed next time. I am not sure why this message was removed for abuse alert
Which company is this? i know all the companies in bangalore give you 3 months. it is a policy from the govenment. either you are lieing OR do not want to question it for the sake of money
most IT companies give 12 weeks maternity leave which is usually extendable by another 4 weeks of paid leave. And if more leave is required one can always take unpaid leave. Also lots of companies offer work from home facilities. The situation is vastly diffrent from what she is portraying.
From Personal experience .. They don't even want to marry .. I had a relation of 8 years ..and the moment she got a job she wanted me to come back to India leaving a 10000 USD$ job abroad so that she can carry on with her Career saying that she will not get a job of her profile where I work!! and When I tried to reason She walked out of my life refusing to marry me!

Guys thanks for the encouraging words!! I am just wondering thats all. The debate will never end as to what Women are made for . is it that they have crossed the limit or is it that men expect too much from them

@Sanjay S thats why Sigmund freud wrote finally "What does a woman want and need" bottomline is if you like a female try to know her and if you are not able to get a hold on her call it quits. So dont rack your brains too much you will find a girl of your choice till then be patient
Patricia Mary Mukhim, is talking thro' her hat, no company worth it's salt would go against the government rule. Infact IT industry is the only industry who have the possibility of working from home. I have my friends, sister and wife in IT industry, working for varied companies as WIPRO, TCS, HP, all of have had some of the best employers who have allowed them to work from home. She must be talking of some swaetshop and generalising with IT majors. Please get your facts right before talking. Most of the IT & ITES Majors celebrate motherhood, please do not talk ill of them to get cheap publicity.

A typical Indian male chauvinist. I think ladies do deserve a better treatment. Its not their sole responsibility to raise a family.

The decision is totally the choice of partners. Different people have differnt likes and priorities in life. the problem is having partners with differnt priorities, one conflicting the interest of others.

Not a good thought. Please dont pursue in the same manner. You may become dangerous in this blog
This problem arises becoz people praise people like Narayana murthy when he always keeps talking about leadership, every time in the papers I hear he talking about leadership, now to what extent has this leadership of Narayana murthy been helpful in incubating new startup companies is a huge question mark.MIT Boston has incubated about 4000 odd new firms, how much have our IIT's and IIM's helped in building startups.same way how can we expect from people like Murthy whose talks are hollow to have better employee benefits when it comes to Paternal and Maternity leave. The policies of majority of Indian IT companies are flawed and they make people work like slaves for a few rupees and we boast of all these milching that goes without any questioning or without any regulations or regulators in place.

Most of the people in india wants luxurious life at the cost of neglecting family life.Ladies can definitely opt for better profession than IT, where they can concentrate on children, husband and inlaws. Unfortunately because of BPO,IT industry most of the young couple wants to have food at 5star hotel and inculcate lavish life after neglecting good family life. these young couple repent for wasting their good life.

you are giving a wrong picture, most of ladies work not for enjoying lavish life, but because it is a neccesity.

You are right plus the present generation is very greedy, any young guy or lady in IT domain when they met another fellow boasts I have an apartment of 50lacs.Mentality of people have changed altruism has totally vanished from the peoples mind.Hope sense prevails
I am not sure how can a company do this. THREE months maternity leave is MANDATED by Law. No company can even work by flouting this law. Rediff should have better people writing this kind of article.

I agree with you the law stipulates a 3 months maternity leave for women not only in IT but in all the industries as against the statement made in this article.
