Money for asking questions
by Mansukhlal Shah on Nov 27, 2007 11:57 PM  Permalink

Most of the legislators and parliamentarians, although not all, get elected to their respective assemblies and the Parliament on the pretext that they are there to serve the masses. What humbug! They are there to get all the perks they have voted for themselves plus backhanders for asking planted questions and do the bidding of their hidden paymasters. When they are exposed by sting operations they have the temerity to accuse investigating journalists and have them harrassed by pliant police force. Is this the democracy for which Mahatma Gandhi and other freedom fighters risked their all in the service of the nation?: Such politicians and their partners in crime should go through a rapid judicial process and if found guilty locked up for at least 5 years and debarred from fighting any elections for the rest of their lives. Their ill gotten gains should be handed over to the Indian Exchequer to be used for the good of the nation.

MP's have a right to do anything what they want. As they are lawmakers they will spent Rs.26,000/- per minute inside the dome [parliament] that also our money and we have no right to question. becuase they are our representatives. we have to silent. they will move with red light car and we are dogs to watch. This is our democracy and when police will come to arrest him immediately their chest pain will start and police will not take any action. Our Honourable judges also have no guts to take some tough action. We all know judges also take some helps from them so naturally they will also go some relaxation.

Where we will go there is no alternate. Every time there is scam and some days it is going on air everywhere like print and electronic media but suddenly one day it will disappear and people will forgotten everything and after few years he become MP and we have to slute him. They become Peoples representative.

Lobbying in democracy
by PKN on Nov 27, 2007 01:26 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I could find myself the target of ridicule for saying it but I am convinced that it must be said at least to start a debate on the matter. Why is it wrong for the general public to 'pay' an MP to raise a question in the parliament?
Idealism may be acceptable but meaningless if it refuses to accept reality. The fact remains that in a democracy every member of the Parliament represents the people and people have the right to go to him/her for ensuring the attention of the Parliament to issues relevant to them.
In a functioning democracy lobbying with MPs should not be a crime. Lobbying, unless your naive, has an element of payment. What is a matter of concern is that by treating this as crime we force the whole activity underground and only an innovative sting operations can bring this to light. Can we make it transparent and call the payments so made as 'political donations"?
If " influencing' law makers is a crime why is Washington crowded with "lobbyists"? Why did India appoint a Lobbying firm to ensure that issues related to this country are viewed favorably by Senators in the US?
What is the point of setting unrealistic moral guidelines and ignoring ground reality.
Lobbying is a reality and every member of the Cabinet, the Parliament and the legislature is being lobbied directly or through his /her party. Favors either in cash or kind is being given for this.
Why there is there this high moral indignation for direct lobbying with MPs.

PKN, Everything is right in the country untill there is misuse of 'freedom of speach'. But understanding the real meaning of the freedom of speach is far from any ones act. When there are people stippng women in public are there in the country, Everything seems to be correct. Let us listen sometime later the speech to justify there act as right by some lawyer fighting for them. We all are just listerners and time pass citizen's. I agree with you as well.

Yes Yes, true....The Left gets the strength in the entire India to do the following achievements :

The strength to buckle in front of Muslim protests and pack-off Taslima.

The strength to kill and torture people in Nandigram.

The strength to preach in other states and practise the opposite in Kolkata.

The strength to 'permit' Congress on N-deal after the Congress heads visit China and Russia.

The strength to criticize the central Government on every count and yet cling on to the proxy power by unashamedly supporting the Government.

What a great strength !!!

I just hope that this country's right-minded people use their strength (using Ballot and not Bullet, like these Reds and their Naxal cousins) and pack-off these Communists from all the legislative bodies.

India's path will be right only after the Left has left India.
