FRIEND OR FOE?

Underpinning this deal are Musharraf's

published credentials. He has always

given the impression that he and his

troops are Western-leaning moderates.

However, the real Musharraf is far

more complicated, and a good deal of

the time we have paid the general to

stand by us, he has been cosseting the

forces that are bent on undermining

the West, as part of a policy of

defiance that stretches back two

decades. Musharraf's career took off

in the mid-1980s, when he was

dispatched to train fighters aiding

the mujahedeen in Afghanistan - all

part of a U.S. proxy war to eject the

Soviet army that had invaded there in

1979. The conflict brought a secular

Pakistan army into close proximity

with jihadis, serving to radicalize

ordinary soldiers, as well as

sharpening their intelligence skills

and battle craft. Musharraf won his

first real plaudits in 1988 when he

was ordered to cool a political

uprising by Pakistani Shiites living

in Gilgit, in the north. Using out-of

-work mujahedeen fighters, Musharraf's

men killed hundreds, crushing the

revolt, and he was rewarded with a job

at army headquarters. Born a Sunni, he

had never identified with political

Islamism but from then on he

understood the power of manipulating

faith. By the mid-1990s, as director

general of military operations, he was

serving Benazir Bhutto, who was in her

second term as

Indian defence agencies!!
by Vish on Nov 11, 2007 08:56 PM  Permalink

I hope Indian defence agencies are keeping stock of these developments. Hopefully, they can use this opportunity to gain better information and devise strategies. I hope, Indian agencies are working overtime to find the strength and location of Pakistan nukes.

I think someone in top position in current administration need to assure people that they're aware of risks of current situation in Pakistan too.

America would get their piece of Cake
by John. P. Patrick on Nov 11, 2007 08:42 PM  Permalink

The Self claimed World Police, could not ever have a neat and good foreign policy after the WW2. With the Lobby's in favour of Pakistan and President who has made the people of US to stand behind him for his attack on Middle East.
I have heard a saying from my friend..Scenario now has become so cheap could fit it with a joke.

"Fighting for terrorism is like F**king for Virginity"

India should be aware of the situation, Bargain the deal on Permanent position in the UN (could enjoy Veto power). And should never trust any one when it comes to her security.

They are worried abt Nukes reaching Al-Q and then to their cities...;) not so compasanate an attack on India. (Just an eye wash to attack on PAKI to sizege the Nuke).

Long live america. you will get you piece of cake for your well behaving.

How Sad?
by Libran on Nov 11, 2007 08:41 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Isn't it sad that US is unable to do anything about Pak's nuclear bombs, even though they planted the seeds of that long back to be deterrent for India's N capability? It is another matter that Pak developed the N bombs to a certain extent with the help of stolen technology. But, to a large extent, the N stock pile there has 'Made in China' mark on that.

A day will come whne China too will repent as Islamist expansion reaches China!!!
