i think that if the couple had sought the media's help in the beginning that might have helped them.

Kudos to rediff for covering this Story
by lalit gupta on Nov 06, 2007 01:11 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I think rediff has shown a lot of maturity by covering this story and is showing the maturity in thier Journalism skills.

I hope rediff will be able to provide justice to the poor family and Priyanka who lost her love because of the indiscriminate and corrupt system.

I hope the changes should be made in the "System" which makes it useful for both Rich and Poor alike.

Best Regards,
Lalit

RE:WHY A HINDU GIRL MUST NEVER MARRY A MUSLIM.
by David Johnson on Nov 06, 2007 01:36 AM  Permalink
Hi Kedem Kemorah,

Sharmila Tagore married Patoudi nothing happened, both were rich.

Saif Ali Khan married Amrita Singh no problems, both were rich

Nargis married Sanjay Dutt, no problems both were rich.

So, it is a matter of Rick vs Poor.

So, don't try to spread dirty venom on hindu-muslim basis

Putting myself in Todi's shoes
by dip dutt on Nov 06, 2007 12:45 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Well, for a change let me be Ashok Todi, an astute patriarch who wants to control her daughter's life with iron gloves. Let me also assume that I am extremely sensitive to my social standing, which to me holds more weight than an individual's right to choose. And in a keen agreement to Mr. Arun's views let me also claim to be one of the thousands of dads who want to see their daughter economically prosperous and happy which the shanties of Tiljala would not have provided.

In that case, isn%u2019t it better that I spent my lakhs of rupees in bootstrapping Rizwan%u2019s career into a more successful one (either by sponsoring a business or an education), rather than on hiring goons and bribing officials. Rizwan was a self-made person from humble origin, he was no idiot and hence such a gesture would not have gone in waste..

Before anyone points out that it would be another form of patriarchy which would strangle Rizwan and Priyanka for the rest of the lives, let me point out that it would be a better of the choices under the circumstances (reforming Ashok Todi is an ideal option but not a practical one)%u2026In lot of ways his option would be a win-win. Given that Ashok Todi%u2019s son-in-law would anway inherit his empire, it would have been inevitable anyway..

You are right Dutt,

it would have been a win-win situation. But, try to think from another angle. Can Todi do it if he thinks Rijwan had trapped his daugher with his money in mind? That will be the first thought of a rich father, when he comes to know that his daughter is in love with a poor boy.

His reaction is understandable, not justified though. These kind of things happens every day in our country. This case is blown out of proportion, just because the boy is Muslim.

There is nothing more to that
