Ms. Mayavati's new plea and surprising support to it by the Prime Minister and L.K.Advani are prescriptions to ruin India. Already, the SC, ST and thre OBCs have got 50% of seats in higher educational institutes reserved. There is also a demand for additional reservations for the Muslims; some day, the Christians and other minority communities will also demand rteservation and politicians with axes to grind will support them. This way, Quo Vadis India, whichway is India is going? Ms. Mayavati's new plea is of course prompted by her desire to broadbase her party and wrest power from the UPA in 2009 General Election but what are all these regressive steps leading to? Let not our politicians fulfil Winston Churchill's prophecy that in just 50 years after Independence, they would send the country to dogs. In reservations, only the economic criteria should be followed and economically weaker students should be helped by stipends, scholarships etc., as the British did. reservation bsed on economic criteria is the best. there should not b caste based reservations now, as desired by dr ambedkar, who advocated it for 10 years only.
The following reservation policy will ensure proper representation of all deserving classes: - Those with less than 20% marks will not be admitted - 25% seats should be reserved for those getting 20-40% marks. - 25% seats should be reserved for those getting 40-60% marks. - 25% seats should be reserved for those getting 60-80% marks. - 25% seats should be reserved for those getting 80-100% marks. Selection in each category will be by computerised draw of lots.Since no one irrespective of caste,religion or economic conditions will be deprived of admission,who will complain ? All is fair in love and war and politics.

one more suggestion - as there wd be very few persons in 80-100% level and very high in 0-40% level so 1% selection from 80-100% level and 49% selection from 0-40% level

Apparently, good idea but unworkable! Does he mean percentage of seats in a seat of learning, or of applicants? If it is of seats, 25% cannot be filled by applicants securing 80 to 100 per cent. Then how to select 25% from the huge number of applicants, as in each of the first two or three categories, there would be huge number of applicants, calling for lotteries. If seats are filled by this formula, politicians will not be satisfied, because their votebanks will not swell, because an applicant from a lower caste can score very low, even lower than 20% and therefore, would not qualify. The best answer to Ms. Mayawati is that already by reservations for the SC, ST and the OBCs has already hit the ceiling of 50%, prescribed by the Constitution which cannot be amended except by a two-third majority. What you say makes lot of sense.You idea of capping reservations to 50% is reasonable.But how do we know whether the glass is half full or half empty? Regarding vote bank I fail to understand how that will be affected since every politician is saying the same thing and there is nothing to differenciate one from other unless someone wants 100% reservations which in any case is not feasible since it would require two thirds majority.
Reservation based on caste were meant to apply only for ten (10) years but unfortunately, now, when we have crossed 60, they still exist in our country.
This, incompetence of our political masters,has only served to divide us further and further away from our united goal.
Reservation should have been based on economic criteria alone.
We must learn to accept the lessons taught by our past.
Mayawati's call for reservation for poor among the upper castes has lit a glimmer of hope. Besides both Dr Singh and Advani are, at long last, on a similar wave-length> But all this still needs fine-tuning. The Have Nots are restless, still. The rest, who may not be that badly off but are languishing in the doldrums yet, are not going to take it lying down much longer.
Let us force all politicians to forget the past mistakes and begin to look forward at OUR future.

We know that for our ever-growing population they (our political phooh-phahs)have not provided sufficient amount the right kind of resources for all OUR people.
Only to those who were really economically impaired and could not have afforded good education, should they have provided with all the wherewithal for upliftment, irrespective of their caste, creed or religious leanings.
Time has come to start afresh, and we must ... now.
Let's face it, we have been sickular, not secular, all these years. We were not able to give them good basic primary education, so we should not be talking at all about reservations for them in IITs and IIMs, or in medical and engineering colleges.
We must help them in every possible way to do an honest piece of work. Reservations in employment opportunities in the government sector for a maximum three (3) years is okay. But that does not mean we must protect their jobs for life and legacies. If they do not measure up by in three years, then, they should be out on their nether-mounds.
As it is this sector is laid back and sluggish. We cannot fill up vacancies only with incompetence, now that, with hindsight, we have seen that most such people have taken reservation to be their birth-right and jagirs.
For sixty years our focus has been wrong.
We should have have concentrated on having more schools and colleges.
We should have also had many more special institutions for the handicapped and our other disabled brethren. They are the the real under-privileged who need our help to integrate in society.
Reservations in the private sector is a foolish idea. It will be a grave mistake and a big liability on the nation.

Reservation on the basis of cast was to bring up oppressed class of people. It was necessary as we all know upper cast people has been suppressing their fellow citizens who were weak. I feel giving reservation on the basis of economical status is wrong. Childrens of poor should be given scholarships to persue their education and/or low interest rate loans to start up a business. As for as cast based reservation is concerned we should try to phase it out. Best to phase it out is no one can use the benefit of reservation more than twice. the childrens of people who has been benefitted with reservation and are doing good (economically) should not be given reservation. This will transfer the benefits to real poor people from the concerned casts. Hope better sense prevail among our politicians and more importantly citizens.

There should be reservation for priest positions across all temples similar to what it is in jobs. Balmiki ,Vyas can become Brahmin from Dalit , why cannt it happen today?Let us redefine the classes of society Brahmin: Priest of High earning Temple/Mosques/Churches,Beaurocrats, Other Intellectuals like Docters, Academicians
Chhatriyas:Defence Personnels,Politicians
Vaishyas:All Business People, Educated Professionals like IT,Film Industry people etc.
Shudra:all service professionals doing low-level jobs, Farmers(not farm owners),agricultural labourers,unemployds,employed below Rs. 5000 a month ,coolies , rickshaw Pullers etc.
Give reservation to all shudras and do some affirmative action for other classes
Now every body is looking towards Miss Mayawati because they want support in President election.So now whichever she tells all are acceptable. Otherwise reservation is not solution of any problem. Just remove all reservation, than see if any body is calling himself as backward.
