the creative liberties of an artist
by Utpal Dutta on May 15, 2007 09:57 PM  Permalink

The liberty of one CANNOT R E P E A T CANNOT harm
another's feelings or sentiments.
Those who support such ACT are nothing but CRIMINALS as per I P C .The desires of a fractional few cannot rule over the greater section!
Those who love 'creative liberties of aet' should do it within their own house and use anyone of their family to help the artist to draw!
May invite others too!

I feel chandramohan deserved what he got from moral police. Nobody have complained even RSS or bajrangdal when MF Hussain or any other artista have painted anything else other than painting Hindu gods nude. So it is wrong to say that there is no freedom of expression for artists in India. if preverts starts painting gods in nude and expect everbody to go with it is pure bullshit.

If they say that it is thier tribute to hindu gods by painting them nude let them pay tribute to thiier parents also by painting it nude. I think the so called champions for freedom of expression will lap it up.

Selective amnesia
by SSCD on May 15, 2007 05:49 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

What were these so called "freedom of expression" proponents doing when:
- a fatwa was drawn against Salman Rushdie for writing "The Satanic Verses"
- a fatwa was drawn and a prize was put on the head of person who made a cartoon character out of Mohd. Paigambar, mind you the fatwa was drawn by somebody in India only.

Aren't both of above cases an axe on freedom of expression?

Just because Hindus are broad-minded and open to criticism doesn't mean that you can beat them left-center-right.

Enough is enough!!

Freedom of Expression
by Abhijit on May 15, 2007 05:46 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Mr M F Hussain, the great has not at all agreed to apologise for his painting on Goddess Sarswati. But when some fundamentalists asked him to remove some part of a film he made, that was hurting Muslims, he did it.
So does Freedom of Expression different meanings for different religions?

It's just a matter of convinience, beat those who won't fight back. And there is only one way to set the record straight, As it's famously said in Hindi, "Laton ki bhoot baaton se nahi maante"

For the 'educated' ones :)
by seena Thomas on May 15, 2007 05:24 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am just wondering if 'educated' people who knows how to access internet and write a message in rediff, are fighting over religions, how would the rest of our India be?

As rightly said in a movie, we are living in a time, where each one believes the blood of a person belonging to another religion is the most favourite dish of his/her own god. Everyone believes that his/her's is the most righteous religion and all others need to be eliminated. Take a minute off and think of the repercussions of such thoughts/teachings in a multi-religious society like our's.

I agree completely with Seema Thomas. People should not fight over religions.
I remember that some people in India have protested over screening of Da Vinci Code. I really wonder why these supporters of 'Freedom of Expression' have not welcomed the movie?

Unfortunately, for our country, education in our country doesn't translate into right set of moral values and social values being inculcated, IQ is not same as EQ.

But you know what "Laaton ke bhoot baaton se nahi maante", and that's why no artists ever has had any problem denigrating a Hindu cultural symbol. And those artists have not dared denigrate symbols of any other religions.

RE:What is next?

Well said Osman. This half baked communist has been barking like this all along. He thinks himself as the ideal person in this world. He should know that his theology has been rejected in its bastion. And the last known communist state, China, is inching towards capitalism. And Cuba is doomed.

But Indian communists like this guy are still living in fools paradise hoping for a liberation on their Judgement Day, a la Tiannaman Square.
