Always the our national security should come first.
by hi on May 15, 2007 08:49 PM  Permalink

Always the our national security should come first. I hope the Indian Govt. take a decision in the interest of Indian people. Hope we explain these situations w/ US Govt. when supplying the nuclear fuel to treat on par w/ others w/o much conditions. There is no trust deficit here, we (Indians) also shouldn't feel like drop cloths, then only give energy kind of feeling. So, please talk more, if feels something like that & explain to them.

I Do Not Buy This Deal As Stands
by Khandu Patel on May 15, 2007 01:39 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I agree entirely with the views advanced here. The Singh administration has appeared almost desperate to sign the deal, and that is what is indicated by his Government. There is the added danger that Singh has never been accountable to the nation having never been elected to office, and Sonia Gandhi the power behind him never had the constitutional legitmacy to bind Bharat to a deal such as this. What is tragic for Bharat is that there is no opposition worth its name in Bharat with the feeble showing by the BJP in UP. I would only add that I would not consider myself bound by this deal.

by Gurmit Singh on May 15, 2007 01:33 PM  Permalink

I dont know much about if and buts in this nuclear deal. Can i support this columnist i know only one thing we need nuclear energy but not at the cost of national interest. Why cant be buy the technology from Russia is there tech crap or if US tech is superior or cheap. What ever be the final draft of 123 agreement but dont play with nations scientist and people i feel mix of politician and scientist can better negotiate this deal but beware that scientist dont leak the things and that doesnt come into his mind that play with people emotion by taking hard stance and become politician. So both are important byt keep national interest.

P-5 G-5 Status
by bingo on May 15, 2007 11:01 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Earlier west denied to gives space technology, nuclear technology, and super computer,
We show that we can develop our selves.
National interest should have first priority.
If west give us status as P-5 and G-5 group only then we have negotiate with them.
We have enough thorium which will fulfill our energy demands for 300 years.
We need to develop technology for it.

We have Thorium but no technology to put it to our nuclear use.
BARC is primarily responsible to come with a mechnaism, but till date
they have not been able to do it. It is unfortunate. We should look for other options in the light of this failure. This is serious now.

it is not that, we cannot do it by ourselves, only thing it will take longer.

russia is already willing to give us the technology without any strings (tho they demand lot of money for it) without any international council crap. i would say if russia gives us the technology for money (without any return uranium shit), if we have the money, just buy it from them.

i think we should get this done by any means without compromising on any of our conditions.
because we need this for energy creation for the sake of our billiion people.

people are important.

Russia is our old friend.
If Russia wants money for technology, we have to accept it.
But for longer future we have to think for Thorium.
If India gets status like P-5 group, that will fulfill its all demands in 123 deal.
We have to try of bigger goal.

america is an opportunist
we dont have to bend .
accepting is the best way with mutual benefits, but not by sacrifying our country's best foreign policy .it even tried to stop us in various technology fields and isolated us .from advanced technology field.

Bravo!! Dr Gopalakrishnan and Everybody involved with DAE
by Sameer Bhagwat on May 15, 2007 09:00 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dr. Gopalakrishnan and Everybody involved with DAE, we as Indians are indebted to you and your contributions.

We will not second guess the Scientists, please speak your mind.. Politicians, well who cares about them and their cronies, who want to sellout Indian interestest, after these many years of Technology denials and sanctions..

The West is only interested in selling their product due to the large market, and want India to be a "consumer for life", and not attain self suffeciency.

If we take selling product aspect, then, NOT ONLY West is interested. We also do not want to put much restrictions in this globalized world. Eveybody mutually benefited, thru mutual understandings.

Nice Article
by bhagath yarlagadda on May 14, 2007 10:34 PM  Permalink

The article was very nice giving insightful thoughts about the nuclear deal. The one thing Indian Govt. should learn is never sell the countries for their benefits or shorrt term benefits. We are a developing ad we are need of alternate fuel sources and that shouldn't be desperation. Always the our national security should come first. I hope the Indian Govt. take a decision in the interest of Indian people, whatever may be the outcome. I strongly believe that the Govt. should take the ideas and suggestions from the Indian Scientists who are working so hard into considerations. I am reading lot of news on this deal that our Baba Atmoic reaserch head is involved in the negotoations which is a good thing but how realistic is the news that our govt. is very sincere in this effort. Our govt. has a long history of taking lot of missteps compromising our nations security and values. I hope it will not be the case in this pact.
