Bihar is not A Bimaru State...
by D goel on Dec 19, 2007 05:45 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Pkl.Afternoon,5.45pm.,Wednesday,Dec. 19,2007
This is a common cliche amongst English media Chatterati to write off amongst all Bimarus Biharis as the most despicably irremediable.
This is adding insult to damaged unbalanced growth of peasant economies of the agrarian political economy of the Ganga -Basiun.
What has been not adequately realized that present Caste Syndrome of Biharis is only high lighted, while their contributions in terms of minerals and Electrical Power are given no credit.youthful Biharis are now making it good all over the globe ,now as much as Bengalis or Kannadigas..ywes even in IP industries and other indicators in the phenomenal triumphal entry in the forte of Anglicised Babus in IITS/IIMS or IAS.So the Bihari Buddhu is only a motivated denigration of Poor peasant communities of Bimaru Ganga -Basin Agrarian Society.Sooner , the Babucracy gives up this deliberate denigration it is better for progressive rebirth of Indian Democracy.D. RE:Bihar is not A Bimaru State...
by aparajita mahendra on Dec 20, 2007 01:48 PM  Permalink
A good well researched article. There is no question and doubt about what bhiharis have achieved in various fields all across the globe. But have they done anything on a general basis to improve the conditions of the poorest of the poor other than helping themselves to come out of the state that has been left to fall into darkness for years and years.Have any of the those well achieved biharis come back to do something for their own so poverty sruck state. No,actually noone does.It will take a hell lot of effort to improve the conditions in this state and its not possible without making a conscious effort from evryone's side. bihari schools
by ANINDA GHOSH on Sep 15, 2007 07:26 PM  Permalink

why bihar alone? ya, I know of contractors holding Headmaster posts in vaishali & begusarai without joining the school 4 a day in a month, & these contractors are all masters with ranks bought from magadh univ.

But I was shocked 2 find that MBAs & PhD s & Masters in Southern capitation fee based universities r no different .

Pay them & get degree. And after that how can u expect an inspector 2 work?

Go 2 assam , an average ITO closes a corporate assessment with not less than a lac of rupees.

Bihar the heaven it was ,
by HARI GOPAL on Sep 12, 2007 06:04 PM  Permalink

History of Bihar is replete with the great virtues personalities ,it is also one of the most gifted state. But what went wrong.

I have been to interior Bihar several times, had an oppertunity to see common man from close quarter and seen their sufferings . I always felt that a common Bihari is a very innnocent, hard working ,intelligent ,honest human being, but is the most exploited by their own people . A very small percentage of the people(so called Lords) have terrorised the whole population there and have created a feeling that ,its they whom for rest of the people are . They were let loose by so called peace loving governments,Law and order maintaining agencies for their own convinience.Political parties got their own kith and kin elected at their whims and fancies.
It is not a common man who painted the feeling that if their children are educated , they will not be use full for routine works , but the lords who have strongly infused this feeling in them , for their own(lords) advantage.
Whith out any affiliations to any political party , I feel happy that a leader like Mr. Nitish Kumar has taken over the task of rebuilding the lost heaven, may god help him to restore the glory of Bihar, that it was .
It is tribute to the goodness of a common Bihari that it had least relegious disharmoney and not the politicians who claim empty glory for that.Though I am not a Bihari,I still feel very proud of it , and am pained when ever people use derogatory language for Bihar.

School Education in Bihar
by amit giri on Aug 22, 2007 01:48 PM  Permalink

It is quite unfortunate that Bihar has the least literate people in the contry. It's all because of the past governments, who didn't care a bit in this direction. In reality, the people of Bihar are very much hardworking and do always strive for excellence . They are poor, downtrodden and hapless only because of lack of oppourtunities. Now a start has been made and i'm qite sangine that the world 'll watch the better denouement.

Bihar
by Raja Shekher on Aug 04, 2007 05:52 PM  Permalink

I definitely welcome this change. I want to see Bihar among the other states where people can go and tour just like in other states without any fears. Hope the new generation will provide such opportunity. It seems the Nitish's Government is doing some good job there.

It's touching
by Mayank Krishna on Apr 22, 2007 12:15 AM  Permalink

This is the kind of reporting that stands out in clutter generated by Indian media obsessed with celebrities and ppowerful people. The story is touching not just because it brings true India to the centrestage but also vividly shows the hope these small children have and the kind of efforts they are putting despite all socio-economic odds. Just contrast these kids with the pampered kids you see in big cities. These cool and confident rural kids are in the process of graduating from the "university of hard-knocks". Life will surely be tough for them but the ones who manage to graduate would be young men and women who had faced the trial by fire to succeed anywhere in any condition.

India's future will not get secured by 9% GDP growth. India's future will depend on how many of these kids all across the country manage to graduate from the "university of hard-knocks".

Reading this story really moved me; more so because 15 years back, sometimes I used to visit a similar school in the same area (Goraul block) where my mother taught and still teaches.

Cheers!!

Very good work, but...
by Upasana Martin on Apr 20, 2007 04:48 PM  Permalink

Excellent coverage!
I wonder about these phrases in the Indian press (not just here): such as "--where girls in the minority community are sometimes withdrawn from school after they reach puberty."'

The minority community? is there only one minority? Do they really mean "Muslim,"and if so, why not say so? The unmentionability of certain words in the Indian media is really alarming.

I THINK THIS BAD CONDITION OF BIHAR IS ON LY DUE TO THE PEOPLES OUT THERE, PEOPLES THERE DONT WANT TO LIVE A GOOD LIFE, THEY JUST WANT TO ENJOY THE SLUM, THEY DONT HAVE DESIRES.....

At least learn some basic grammar and improve your language...the use of "PEOPLES" is absolutely wrong and ridiculous.....You dont seem to have a desire for self improvement and personal development....ridiculing a community and generalising all the members of the community shows that you are immature and hence you need an introspection.

I just spent 8 weeks in Bihar, where most Indians refuse to go, and found there to be a great many upstanding people, fighting against a terribly corrupt system. Like the rest of India, in fact. The way in which some Indians ridicule suffering countrymen never ceases to amaze me. These are not professional beggars but working people.

man....i dont think abusing or ignoring one part of our country will help. Do you do this if a part of your body undergoes any pain or is defected. I think we should eliminate this region discrimination, join hands and work together for development of our country, all together.
