Pity that we did not get an opportunity to taste your generosity. When Bombay degenerated, you relocated!

Mumbai Rains
by rajiv ramanujam on Jul 01, 2007 09:40 AM  Permalink

Every year, the same story. The city is sorrounded by concrete, the drains only cope with so much, tidal bores..we've heard it all.

It is evident the government can only do so much.Only citizens self help groups can do something. When you have crazed misnisters who want SEZ's everywhere, what else do you expect?with builders willing to build on the corpses of the people, what else do you expect? Its rained for hundreds of thousands of years? Why is it so deadly now?

Mumbai Rains
by Analysis on Jul 01, 2007 09:29 AM  Permalink

Its becoming disgusting to see how year after year a city is crumbled to its knees with a day or two of rain (how so ever incessant it may be). Its the same story every year - the first real downpour will stop the city, trains, tranffic, offices all halted. People stranded. Then tens die. Army will be called. Media will carry articles of how indifferent administration is,how the BMC took crores and no do any thing, ususal mudslinging at all that non-sense, no action, all talk democracy does ! And some how we Indians excel in that democracy. Then there would be many calling this is the spirit of Mumbailaers. How they can bounce back from a terrorist attack to a flood.. all in a day. While tens die, and thousands see their life changed after the 2 days, the rest of India will move forward with the another crap - Prez election, an India-SA match etc etc. For us there would be so many things more important than a few ten lives. This is the sort of country, people we are. Hearltess idiots. Its time Mumbaikers stand up, say this is enough now. Stop the city if that's the way to clean this mess up. A city stopped for a few days today would be better than to get it stopped each year, loose hundred of lives, and in the process fill the pockets of the idiot beureucracy. That would be the real Mumbai. Let's stop acting to be another Shanghai. Let's first try to be a city to live in.

MULTI-TIER HETERO VEGETATION COVER IS MUST
by Rehman SH on Jul 01, 2007 09:26 AM  Permalink

It is true that our dwelling places are much compacted with people, bounded by concrete walls. Along with population control, immigration control, one most important thing to be done is consumption control. Always try to scale your sorroundings with natural habitat, not with USA, Saudi or England. We have become so obcessed with material development that we have forgotten to save nature gifted pure air, potable water and unadulterated healthy food. Instead to achieve undesirable artificial development we are keeping this biological systems in non-compatible concrete and plastic sorroundings. To get basic elements of life (air, water & food), we should inculcate to reestablish multi-tier hetero vegetation both on farm lands and urban sorroundings. We should stop hated towards nature and undesirable affinity towards arrogantly created artificial habitats. All wise people should start allocating at least 75% of our owned land under multi-tier vegetation and 25% only and hardly under concrete slabs or pavings. This will allow soil to absorb, store and supply water incessantly.

why blame BMC, as matter of fact any city willbe like this and any Mun.corpn will not rise to the ocassion. this is a country of stupid politicians and bunch of immatured jokers. as an example i am telling some main road in hyd were carpeted in May and the rains came in june and the new road just disappeared with one big rain and traffic came to a grinding halt and somany people missed their trains and flights. indians are the most irresponsible people and the chalta hai attitude has ruined our character of the people. it is a fact we cannot solve our problems. God save this country Mera Bharat Mahan

I feel that the BMC should not spent Croes of Rupees on Cleaning the Gutters or widening them. Infact give the same amount to the affected houses and the deceased family members on spot. On survey basis.
