Now a days, I am refraining from blogging on politics as these kicks up lots of dust, But the result of UP elections have agitated me so much that I am not able to even wait, less my anger subsides and I decide not to blog.

What the result mean for me %u2013 It reinforces my belief that we Indians are not fit for democracy. Is this a strong statement? May be but I think it%u2019s true.

The result shows Mayavathi gets majority in the UP election. The people of UP overwhelmingly gave their verdict %u2013 they want Mayavathi as their chief minister. Now, for what they have voted her?

That%u2019s a real big question. BSP did not publish any party agenda (that brings up the question, whether there exist a party at all? This is just an one woman show), so nobody really knows basically what to expect from her govt. Well actually what I meant that she did not go to the voters with any agenda. So we should surmise that the voters voted her to power not for her party%u2019s agenda, plan or program, but only for her.

Let me try to organize the agenda she should have from her utterances and previous records.

1) In her last avatar she has got a diamond-studded crown, so this time she should expect to get more diamonds to adorn her whole body.

2) From every platform she has declared that she will put Mulayam and Amar Singh behind bars, so we should expect lots of litigations against the SP leaders.

Well frankly speaking I am not able to think anythin

i concur completely..but the situation of UP today is due to a chain of events which started in mid 80's..the government(congress and than BJP's) inability to support to progress of the state and instead divulging in the fullfilment of there own vendetta's menifested negitively on the state..within a decade the industries were dying for example (cotton textile in Kanpur which got reduced from 14 mills to just one ) the result were frequent strikes, shutdowns resulting in people getting unemployed and increase in crime rate, once this happened..the other states were booming (Maharashtra,Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh)now the upper middle class in a frenzy decided to persue there education and career in a more peaceful state with a better economy reducing the educated population of the state to half..these people dont vote in UP and they dont vote for the state where they are living..therefore almost 40percent of the states population doesnt practices there most important fundamental rights..the outcome is the government that comes into the power by dividing people on the basis of cast creed and religion, and capitalising on the ignorance of people..which ever government comes the condition of UP wont change because any government will not prefer people getting educated and choosing for them selves responsibily ..because if that happens, for sure ,nobody will be choosing there government..on the brighter side, you can see the youth of Uttar Pradesh gradually drifting away from polit

Present election - post for decoration of obedience
by tuhin narayan roy on Jun 12, 2007 03:01 PM  Permalink

I think the post of President in India is required to be aboloshed. It is like to rear an elephant with people's money having no power and only duty is to put signature on important issues for the sake of his emplyer party. Parties are palying with post. Otherwise could be a respectable post as seen in other countries. Do not you think it is a mokery of our democracy!

Presidents Poll
by Sanjay Jain on Jun 12, 2007 02:56 PM  Permalink

This is really mockery of Indian Politics. A lady from Italy has been given whole power to chose and elect supreme of Indian democracy.

What our senior leader are doing. They are not even able to find a suitable candidate on which a consensus be arrived at. Why should not we thing of some one who really understand the dignity of the position.

But who will come forward as the role of this position is restricted to Flag hosting on the Lal Quila and inauguration of ceremonies only.

We need to elect a person like Mr. T N Seshan, who will definitely make the politicians understand the power of the post.

Most of the sensible people will think of giving another chance to Dr Kalam, he is the best choice and will do what is best for the country, unlike those rubber stamps like Patil & co.
