why ban orkut when no one is taking cognizance of communal carnage spread on rediff message board by their articles and its response by public. I have seen rediff blocking messages/email ids of persons belonging to minority communities while derogatory remarks made by hypocrite hindus are not even removed or seen as abuse. For me rediff is the most communal media and shivsena/thackeray are the worst communal demons, orkut is a sort of blog wherein people are free to provide rejoinders to any thread unlike rediff and shivsena making open criticism of muslims and other minorities
Well , writing derogatory remarks is a crime and by discussing any such content , Orkut can remove them from the website. But just because of this, this wonderful site should not be banned. Punish those elements who do such acts.
Guys all coins have two sides. we are leaving in a democratic country where we have our rights to put our views forward. If shivsena can cause damage then we can cause bigger damage is Orkut is banned. Colleges all across Calcutta would run protest against such activities.
No way. Shiv Sena is suck. Everyone writing their opinion and thinking. What the hell goverment think to banned on orkut.com. Why they not think to take action on shiv sena for did nonsense in cyber cafe?

Mr. Raj, spend more time on your studies, rather than on Orkut. Your command over English language is rather pathetic.

I think YOU need to take English classes as well. Somehow, you have come to the conclusion that this discussion board is about the quality of one's English language. You might want to consider improving your "comprehension" skills, buddy! Also, the correct phrase would be "your command over THE English language". You missed the "THE"! Perhaps you ought to take grammar classes as well! :) To put the record straight, the matter under discussion is "Should Orkut be banned?". Have you got an opinion on that? Or would you rather be interested in irrelevant nitpicking?

Mr. Punjani, your reply is really wonderful. All the fault you could find was that I missed one "THE" in the sentence. Orkut should be banned so that persons like you do not waste time over trivial issues discussed on this Site, if not for anything else.

well said piyush.. but one who wants to waste his/her time on net will find other ways 2 do so,like yahoo chat, rediffbol etc. so dis can not b d reason 2 ban orkut.
Come on, orkut.com has really helped many people like me to get in touch with their old friends.
Though I agree that it can be misused by anyone, still it will be unfair to completely block the site out... more so under the influence of some gundas who tend to threaten government by damaging others' property.
Government should take a strong stand against such groups to curb further such occurances.

U can also get connected with old friends by mobile contacts/college contact or alumin things..But real anti social elements are also using to spread unnecessary things in the net.

I understand your concern. But consider this that in order to be able to contact someone via mobile/email, you have to have his contact. As you would know, in orkut and other online communities, this is not the case. You can search for them and if they have made a profile there, you can simply get to see how they are.
It uses the effectiveness of internet in a very fruitful manner.
I'm against the banning of orkut.com NOT just because bending to Shiv Sena activists will provide them more impetus to the group. I'm saying this because I feel the site is not a useless appendix which is just causing problem (as many of us would feel through newspapers and many other articles).

We never mind if we cheat people,we dont mind for corruption,we never mind for racism,we never mind for antisocial activities,we never mind for falling moral values.But.... yes we do mind for orkut. we talk freedom then why dont allow people to talk freely about their feeling about certain things. What these Shivsena like organisations do for the nation.Do they have moral values, have they ever talked about the poors. These are simply the people having only evil thoughts in their mind.
I am a regular user of the community networking site called Orkut. Apart from keeping in touch with friends, I sometimes occasionally participate in discussion in some of the community groups I am a member of. For example, I am a member of a group called Anti- Communism , where people come and express their views against communism. Just because Shiv Sena activists ransacked cyber cafes, does not mean we cannot stop expressing ourselves. Today, if orkut is not there, there are a 1000 other websites where people can talk against Shivaji or any other icon/iconolocast alike. Then we must ban the world wide web, and we might as well close down all the news papers and subscribe to only Government sponsored news. Is this what the government wants? It's really stupid that the Government actually even sets up a team to look into the merits of banning a website? I think their priorities are skewed.

you are right,So i think there should be some procedure to open account in web sits, same as to go for bank account, school admission so on
These shiv sainiks are just doing anything they want to in the name of religious sentiments.. I think the youth of India should take a step a step forward to curb these "Unwanted Elements".
