Banning Orkut
by on Jun 08, 2007 03:51 PM

I am a regular user of the community networking site called Orkut. Apart from keeping in touch with friends, I sometimes occasionally participate in discussion in some of the community groups I am a member of. For example, I am a member of a group called Anti- Communism , where people come and express their views against communism. Just because Shiv Sena activists ransacked cyber cafes, does not mean we cannot stop expressing ourselves. Today, if orkut is not there, there are a 1000 other websites where people can talk against Shivaji or any other icon/iconolocast alike. Then we must ban the world wide web, and we might as well close down all the news papers and subscribe to only Government sponsored news. Is this what the government wants? It's really stupid that the Government actually even sets up a team to look into the merits of banning a website? I think their priorities are skewed.
