India has a huge cup and our politicians, allowed to capture power with numbers, thought nothing of adding to it. It began with the partition. The advent of Gandhi had cleansed us before that. The woes began adding up fast - language, caste, loan melas, free power, license raj, bureaucracy for sale, premier brands for OBCs, cities on sale, Police brass on the run, corrupt IAS on top, etc. The cup appeared to be bottomless. And then came Rajasthan. It did appear as though the game had reached a checkmate with the very concept that had started it - division.
But now Rajasthan is history and we have the politicians reveling in their power to create a poodle President.
The role model of this country is now expected to be a well trained poodle. Any doubts?
We need a leader who will free us from the tyrany of numbers.

You are RIGHT! ABSOLUTELY NOT!! NO, NO for a Politician as a President, we have enough mess already, we don't want any more!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOO NEVER!! WE HAVE ALREADY A PERFECT GENTLEMAN IN THAT HONOURED SEAT, AS FOR READY REFERENCE!! DO WE REALLY HAVE ANYWAY BETTER FOR THAT POST?? I DON'T THINK SO - WE SHOULD ALL RAISE OUR VOICE TO REQUEST OUR OWN APJ Abdul Kalam FOR HIS RECONSIDEATION FOR THE SECOND TERM.
It is only a Rubber Stamp what difference it makes whether it is made in Rubber or Nylon. India need a strong, young and powerful President to question the bloody corrupt politicians.

You are absolutely correct. I even think that the Finance sector should be taken away from the politicians and create a separate board with several clean profiles from the society. Let the politicians then bark for the justice if at all they feel it is worth any more for them to continue (?) in politics.

thats a right point Sanjit... even the Finance ministry should have non-political figures. though i think with FMs like Chidambaram and Manmohan Singh did strike a right balance between a politician and an economist

Dr Manmohan Singh is also a good chaprasi for Mdm Sonia Gandhi.
When majority of the people of India wants Mr APJ Kalam to continue as president (as evident from many polls conducted by various agencies), why the politicians (who are supposed to reprsent people) have different views on his continuing in the Post. Do common people have a deciding power in this case. I think APJ would not like to get into this nasty politics and therfore have opted out on his own.
The questions sound preposterous. Who is to decide popular will? How did you get the idea that people want a non-politician to the post? is the chatteratti appearing on English channel make the public will? And, please give me a reson why a politician be banned from becoming the President. K J Jacob

Politicians should not be banned. In fact Mr Pranab Mukherji should be made the next President. His main qualification is that he is in the goods books of Mdm Sonia Gandhi.
We are already bugged with all kinds of leaders. We need: 1. A non political leader for the post 2. A person who can be showcased as India's representative 3. One who comes with ethics, honesty and integrity 4. With great national pride 5. Highly qualified and experienced who can deleberate on issues and stands by his decisions.
Can any politician from congress/BJP/left/Dal/etc fit this ?

There is one suggestion for change in Last point- 5. Experienced who..........stand by his decision. ( not highly qualified bcoz people like nehru, Kr Narayan, Arjun Singh, VP singh, Romesh Bhandari etc etc were/are highly qualified)
