This nuclear deal is the greatest foeign policy achievment in India's history. India has got everything it could ask for, like -- no inspection of military nuclear facility, right to reprocess, right to test new devices. USA has bent backward to accomodate india because India is now a super power both militarily and economically and USA needs India.
The left is trying to poison people's mind. They just hate propsperous India with its Trillion $ economy and world class technology.

Where is the right to test?? The most important right. The hyde act specifically says the deal will be scrapped if we test. So, when we have 20 nuclear reactors and we are totally dependent on the fuel from outside for power and basic working of country, how will we test if we need to??
This is just an indirect way to stop india from testing!

We need to do a full scale(Yield) test of Thermo-Nuclear weapon (hyderogen bomb) before we can deploy our new designs validated in 1998 tests. With out tht proof test we will not be able to deploy light weight high yied weapons on our missiles. No light weight weapons results in heavy, less efficient, low yield weapons constraining us. We will need low weight thermo-nuclear weapons to use our missiles efficiently.
Light weapons = more number of high yield weapons for same amount of plutonium.
If we don't do a proof test it will be a capping our techinical capabilities in weapon design. Some people may argue we can do simulations. The answer is you can you simulations and optimize a weapon but with out testing you can never be sure. And there is no scope for error in yield when we have to demonstrate our deterrance.
You can write control laws (FBW- Fly by Wire) for an fighter aircraft and simulate the laws on test bed but, you still need to fly the aircraft with those control laws to validate and refine them. Its the same thing with nuclear weapons too.
Simulations are like reading theory and weapon explosions are like hands on experience. There is no substuite for hands on experience unless you have pleanty of experience like US or RUSSIA even france signed CTBT only after proof testing all their latyest weapons and validating them.

Mr. Sreekanth You are right that The Hyde act specifically says the deal will be scrapped if we test. But that is as far as USA is concern. What this deal allow us is to get FUEL(urenium) from other NSG country, if even USA stop supply of fuel our reactors will not have any problems as far as Fuel requirement is concern. the biggest problem at the moment is as long as we don't have this deal no other country, even if she want, can sale us the FUEL

Do you really expect that US will allow market to take over and act freely. It will push for termination clause and right for return clause in NSG. I also doubt if NSG will allow import of components for enrichment and reprocessing to build a safeguarded national facility.
With out those component we will end up exposing our technologies to other countries to freely steal and copy in the name of international safeguards regeime.
We will always have sword of sanctions hanging on our thread. IF you dont get complete waiver at NSG then we are screwed badly. I mean really really badly. And my gutt feeling says that we will not get complete waiver.
So in effect become NPT, CTBT and FMCT through backdoor which INDIA has resisted to sign all the time.
At the same time our economy and foreign polocy will be tied to interests of foreign powers for ever. This will be 21st century slavery.

I totally agree with Minto. It was not easy for U.S. to accomodate India in this matter. Mr. Singh's administration deserves credit for this. I think only educated Indians who likes India to prosper will understand the value of it, others with criticize it, and they don't care about prosperity.

Thanks for your wise remarks and assessment, in the middle of ignorant comments from some of the responders.
BARC has done nothing substantial to deal with energy crisis in India. Pathetic atomic blasts and few ineffecient atomic power stations are the only achievement after sucking billions of rupees from tax payers money.What is great about atomic blast- even states like Pakistan, N Korea hv done it! A new arrangement is needed and US- India deal is in right direction.

Do you even know what you are talking about??? Pak and North Korea have stolen the technology from various places and done it, we have developed it ourselves!!
And regarding the nuclear reactors, they are relatively small scale because we donot have uranium deposits and we cannot import it currently. What will you do with a huge reactor, without fuel?? Even the ones we have are having fuel supply problem. If you don't know anything just shutup! you are probably one of those Sonia bootlickers who will bend if she tells you that is what is best for you.

Good one Shrinivas...I was thinking on same line..we can not f**ing dispose of garbage from streets..and here we are going for more troubles....mind you this waste will be there for thousands of years..I am not against countries having nuclear deterrant (but not more than 100, or so which is managable)...but to rely on nuclear power will be calling for too much trouble...

Of all the options it is the most environment friendly. Compared to the amount of gasses and waste a conventional power station produces, what nuclear power stations produce is very much lesser!
Its a good article cautioning that Indian public and critics should be made aware of the details quickly. If the details look promising and good, then deal is good, but if it contains US conditions in complex language, then its a pointer that US is cooking something, which will copme up later.
