It is as clear as daylight that Kalam was a more popular candidate than Prathibha any day. However, Prathibha has defeated him by huge margin for the presidential post. This is due to a huge flaw in our democratic system and there needs to be more discussions to correct such flaws. The general public has the authority only to elect MLAs and MPs and have no say in their activities once they get the power. If every citizen were given a chance to vote for the president election, Abdul Kalam would have won by a huge margin. The UPA and their supporters will have to pay a heavy price for this in the next election.

Pl note that PP has beaten Mr. Shekhawat and not Mr. Kalam....and can never be beaten as in our hearts we know that a person of his stature is too big to be compared with a pawn in the hands of corrupt and pathologically selfish politicians of this country...we can't have say in these matters which shows we are still far from a true democracy....

who voted for the politicians? u think that the politicians themselves voted for the politicians. cant u detect that u need medical care?
everyone is posting their comments in here, how many of you can come out on the streets to support Dr.Kalam? the whole Nation wanted Dr.Kalam, but Sonia spat on our faces. and what are we doing? just posting hate messages over here?
today is the time and the chance to hit the streets and oppose this change. or else very soon Sonia will be the next Prime Minister selling our country to Italy.

Dear Abdullah,
I appreciate your concern.
Like many thousands of viewers, I also used to visit Rediff Board and go through the postings.
I also exactly felt the same way.
But closing down the board is not the solution.
When I saw cheap, filthy language postings it really hurt me. Not that I am a Congress supporter or something. But I realised for some strange reason, abusing has become our National passion.
I thought, "was there any way to minimise this filth language postings?"
I knew where these misguided friends were coming from.
I tried to write stories based on facts and played them up through sattire for amusement of readers.
Never tried to convince anybody. Just posted my thoughts but without filthy languages.
In just 2 days, I could see decrease in filthy language postings.
To my great satisfaction, I almost achieved what I had set my goals at.
I do not have any problem with these people who are doing postings.
In young days, I have participated in College Elections, survived street fights.
But converted many misguided people and brought them to the right path. Lots people have thanked me for that later in life.
So, I know there is a "room of reason" somewhere in these misguided youths. We just need to tap that.
So don't be deperate friend.
There is a way out.
Good thing is that you have identified the problem.

I completely agree. I haven't ever come across a worse forum than rediff discussion board in terms of downright hatred of all sorts - religion, region and what not ! Something has to be done about this. Not sure if the guys who facilitate this are aware that this can land them behind bars.

Dear Sethuraj,
People need a "bouncing board" to take out their anger.
So let it be.
Atleast, we know how some sections feel.
Moreover, the fact that they visit Rediff Board time and again, you have an opportunity to talk to them. Reason it out with them.
They act like a "mob".
The mob psychology is different from individual psychology. When even a sane person becomes part of the mob, he also acts differently.
But if you make some effort continuously with a purpose, then you can also convert them.
First, they will attact, then ask for funny explanation, then argue, then suddenly they will fall silent.
That momement of silence is the moment of introspection.
They will not change completely because it will invaliate their whole act and state of being. But if you can initiate that process, time will take care in showing reasons to them.
