It is as clear as daylight that Kalam was a more popular candidate than Prathibha any day. However, Prathibha has defeated him by huge margin for the presidential post. This is due to a huge flaw in our democratic system and there needs to be more discussions to correct such flaws. The general public has the authority only to elect MLAs and MPs and have no say in their activities once they get the power. If every citizen were given a chance to vote for the president election, Abdul Kalam would have won by a huge margin. The UPA and their supporters will have to pay a heavy price for this in the next election.
