ANTULAY BUILDINGS ...
by Hooter on Jul 19, 2007 09:06 AM  Permalink

I don't know how many of you remember ...

During the time of Antulay was the CM of Maharashtra, corruption reached its zenith ... and Cement was made a "scarce commodity" and black marketeers indulged in lot of under-hand deals ...

Most of the buildings constrcuted during that time were WITHOUT CEMENT.

I think this unfortunate Laxmi-Chaya was one of them.

Cheers to Congress ... and Nehru-Gandhi clan ... We are suffering on every front.

Building collapse

No change is going to occur in our society unless each one of us change our way of living. No wonder in our earlier days , our parents used to teach us to be truthful, kind etc. Now a days we have forgotten those things and neither teach that to our children who are going to buil tommorrow's soceity.
We deserve this bcos we have made this soceity this way. we are not worth anything more than to live in a indisciplined, chaotic, selfish , untruthful , greedy and callous way. THis is what we are and this is what we will get. We will never become shanghai. Some one would say - come on let us be optimistic ..this way we will never move an inch...- What they say is true, we will never move an inch bcos we are unfit. Does any of these so called optimist , go an pick up a paper from the road , or not spit around.. ??? This disease will end only when we end. It is too late. Sorry for this harsh saying.. but it is the truth.

You are right. We are not disciplined. We take approval for one plan and build as per another plan. The civic authorities are right from the process point of view. thats the reason none of them are caught. For saving money we build houses in low lying areas, block drainage. We have to pay a price for this. Already we paid price through floods. I think the next round is such building collapses.
Any way a good though provoking article. Thanks to rediff.

yes... but the next avatar will come after 4,27,000 years....according to Hindu mythology, Kaliyuga started after the death of Krishna in 3102 BCE and will last for 4,32,000 years... so approximately, Kalki will come in the year 4,29,007.

Building collapse-What was the housing society doing?
by Thirumal Bhat on Jul 19, 2007 05:46 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Let us be practical. Twenty years ago was a period of shortages in every thing. So corruption of every body involved in every aspect was expected. Having said that thousands of building were constructed which are standing? The culprits are the occupants who make incescriminate modifications and expansions in all the floors. I am sure higher floors owners must have added a few sqare feet in every apartment with or without BMC man's connivance. My question is how did the housing society keep quiet? Were they too bought? Then the apartment owners have to blame themselves for the disaster.God helps those who helpthemselves- the coverse also is true. Even gods will deny help if we dont help ourselves.

Bombay building collapse
by Ashwin on Jul 19, 2007 05:21 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Mr. Kotian, dont say BMC wake up. SAY INDIA & INDIAN GOVT WAKE UP. Do you suggest that only BMC wake up & rest of Govt Depts sleep happily, snoaring to glory? The Dy CM orders enquiry. What happens after the report is received. CAN THE PRESIDENT & PM OF INDIA PLUCK A SINGLE HAIR OF ALL THOSE RASCALS WHO WERE BLOCKING YOUR FILE? NO PARTICULARLY, IF THERE IS EVENONE MINORITY,SC OR ST, THEY CANT TOUCH THEM. AND ABOVE ALL THEY ARE GOVT EMPLOYEES PROTECTED BY THE CONSTITUTION TO DO ANYTHING THEY WANT. THE BLIND, ILLITERATE PLANNERS HAVE NOT SEEN THE PROBLEMS IN MUMBAI & CALCUTTA, EVEN 50 YRS AGO. TODAY EVERY CITY IN INDIA IS A SHIT HOLE TO LIVE EXCEPT FOR MINISTERS. THEY HAVE NOT THOUGHT OF EXPANDING HORIZONTALLY BUT ONLY VERTICALLY & INVITEDALL SUCH PROBLEMS OPEN HEARTEDLY. IMAGINE WHAT HAPPENS IN OTHER CITIES? EVERYONE BLAMES FOR BLUELINE ACCIDENTS IN DELHI. CAN ANYONE IMAGINE HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO DRIVE A BUS IN TODAY'S TRAFFIC IN ANY CITY? OUR GREAT FOOLS AT THE TOP HAVE NOT BOTHERED TO LEAVE ANY SPACE TO MOVE ABOUT ON THE ROADS OR PARKING EITHER ON THE ROADS OR WITHIN ANY COMPLEX/BUILDING. I ONLY WISH SUCH A THING HAPPENS DURING SOME MEETING WHEN SEVERAL MINISTERS ARE PRESENT. MINISTERS DONT REALISE THE PROBLEMS OF THE COMMONERS BECAUSE MINISTERS DONTFACE ANY SUCH PROBLEMS. IF ONLY OUR MINISTERS ARE ASKED TO DRIVE THEIR OWN CARS, RENT THEIR HOUSES AT THEIR OWN COST, NEVER PERMITTED TO OWN HOUSES FOR THEMSELVES OR THEIR CHILDREN, THEY WILL KNOW THE PROBLEMS OF COMMON MAN.

man , science and conscience
by ashish sinha on Jul 19, 2007 05:10 AM  Permalink

how narrow minded we are when we take and give bribes, break rules and not follow the guidelines. we mix more sand than cement, we put 5 pillars instead of six, we make 25 storeys instead of 20, we pack 12 renters in a room made for the family of four, we trick one and all.

we think we are smart.. and then one day finally the rubber hits the road.. and no rule of law matters, no trickery matters, no bribe or the money in ur bank account matters, what matters are the laws of physics... and all this while as we were ignoring that in the name of fast money.

it startles our conscience only when the mishap occurs.

BMC wakeup !
by M Kotian on Jul 19, 2007 03:22 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This whole thing would be that classic Mumbai mentality, this Jeweller must have paid something to the BMC inspector if at they ever came to inspect and got away with his renovation

We have been trying to get our building re-constructed as its getting old and guess what since 1 and 1/2 to 2 years the building committe has been running around these BMC officials to get there papers forward and get clearance. At every stage every person expects something to forward your papers else they go under the pile. PLEASE BMC wake up and stop all this bribery business and make lives of poeple in Mumbai safe and peaceful

This is case of lacking simple technical knowledge. The jewller shop owners might have thought Kuch nahi hota hai, chalta hai, are sab log aise hi karta hai. This is caused by stupidity. No political party is responsible for it.

Good population control is needed. Otherwise nature has a way of dealing with population. With so much corruption and pollution these are expected. As every one of us in India are corrupt nobody even bothers to challenge corruption. I agree politicians are not the ones to blame as we only elected them.

Result of unholy nexus between greedy BMC officials and crafty businessmen

Had there been no nexus between the BMC officials and said businessmen many lives could have been saved but for money life does not matter to these damn officals
