Hardly had I finished reading the article by Mr. Sreenivasan, I received the following "emergency" e-mail, and that too none other than our famous "B. Raman". An ex-spymaster is getting spooked by the Nigerians? -------------------------------------- from "B. Raman" hide details 3:27 pm (3 hours ago) date Jul 25, 2007 3:27 PM subject An Emergency Help Needed mailed-by gmail.com
How are you doing today? I am sorry i didn't inform you about my traveling to Africa for a program called "Empowering Youth to Fight Racism, HIV/AIDS, Poverty and Lack of Education, the program is taking place in three major countries in Africa which is Ghana, South Africa and Nigeria. It as been a very sad and bad moment for me, the present condition that i found myself is very hard for me to explain.
I am really stranded in Nigeria because I forgot my little bag in the Taxi where my money, passport, documents and other valuable things were kept on my way to the Hotel am staying, I am facing a hard time here because i have no money on me. I am now owning a hotel bill of $ 1550 and they wanted me to pay the bill soon else they will have to seize my bag and hand me over to the Hotel Management., I need this help from you urgently to help me back home, I need you to help me with the hotel bill and i will also need $1600 to feed and help myself back home so please can you help me with a sum of $3500 to sort out my problems here? I need this help so
One basic check to identify a scam is to check the e-mail address of the sender. Most companies/organisations worth their salt will have their organisation name in the address. They will not use yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, etc. Also, the suffix will often identify the domicile of the sender (eg, .uk, .in, etc.) which may contradict the contents of the message) R.Narayan.
I have worked in Nigeria and I know their art of 419 (in india we call as 420). Two of my friends got e mails of employment and since they checked with me, I alerted them. The offer is quoted as if from Chevron & Zenith Bank. They take details from Naukri.com, Timesjobs.com and Monster.com etc. A large public scale announcements need to be made to alert our Indians. Also any Nigerian communication, employment etc also need to be streamlined with Strict Govt controls. Apart from this the issue is our own Indian Employers in Nigeria are cheating Indian employees and exploiting our ignorance since they settle themselves in London and in other big cities. Only strict govt regulations and better local embassy services only will help Indian Employees
One should always go out side India with Indian company, which is the only safest way to travel on employment based visa. Unless your relative stay at destination country. And one should not hope/pursue easy money.

Indian companies do not pay well. Many B Com guys have made a career as managers in Nigeria.
The above scam relates to email and carried out from people in Africa.

I get such mails in both yahoo and rediff. Once, I tried to report a junk mail as spam and it was not accepted. It happened in my rediff account. To get a spam free account, we need to pay regularly.

I am using rediffmail only.I already got 100s of this type of messages. For ex., Job scam, somebody's donation through a bank deposit, etc. I tried further with job scam. 1)first they are askin for a job in prestigious company's name and if we send CV then they send an online interview form.If we send by writng something on it,they will send offer / contract letter offering around 23,000 $ per month family accommodation. Also they writes to contact nigerian immegration agency. If we contact them, they ask us 1650 $ immegration fee. 2)three days before, two company's offer,I got(biotech oil and sanghuai cement)and HRD general manager is same person for both company's.When I asked them, they says he is the HRD general Manager of allmost all the top companies in Nigeria.
Please don't go to pay any money to anybody as it is purely a scam.
