What BMC can do?. When the buildings are raised blocking the drainage, then this is committed to happen. Moreover every feet of space is occupied wherein water got a no way to reach sea.
I know people are going to get their daggers out on the BMC. They are culpable ofcourse. But who is to be blamed for lack of proper foresight and co-ordination? In every state and city, this is the problem. After British left India, we have not built a single city till date....just renamed a few. Jamshedpur may be a rare example. Construction companies flouting norms, politicians granting priviliges to construction mafia in forested area. Illegal quarrying...all of this has resulted in the deaths and destruction. We should start developing the corridors outside of each city and buid world class transportation to stop this growing crowding up of cities and crumbling resources. As long as India fails to be strategic, we will conveniently blame natural causes and not take ownership for issues.

Before the great citizens of India start blaming the government and BMC why dont they ask themselves what do they do for thier country? Throwing garbage on the streets, treatin sewer and drainage lines as carriers of junk, indiscriminately using banned polybags (
It is really a matter of shame for all municipal authorities , whether its Mumbai or Delhi its the same story everywhere, if municipal authotities cannot deliver, they should be sacked immediately and no PF or gratutity should be given to them. When municipal authorities canno do their work ,then why to waste the money on them, its better they should shut down their shop

First Government should stop permanent jobs - security is causing procrastination in the employees and they do nothing, sit and eat public's money.

You must be one of those who are definately non maharashtrian now moved to Mumbai from some other states.
Why the hell you shift to Mumbai ????
Once you shift to Maharashtra then you are definatly part and parcel of the soil.
We have rising stock markets, booming economy, etc., but what is missing is real development. Urgent steps need to be taken to tackle such basic problems in the future

The bloody useless Ministers don't spend money on Weather forecast and take necessary actions. India should outsource weather forecasting to USA - then only we will see some improvement. Victims are innocent public.

all comes down to general shortsightedness of indians. you and me don't vote. the people who vote, they suffer. they don't want to spend time thinking about it and some day die in a natural calamity.
When most part of Maharashtra including Mumbai city is drawning under water resulting lot of people lost their lives, became homeless, and remaining without food and electricity for days, The honorable Chief Minister and others are visiting United States and busy for persuing IT perks etc in the state. Honourable minister, I request you, instead of perks etc, first of all, preference to be given for the basic amenities of the common people like drainage system, road, transportation, water and electricity. Wasting of money for building of Venue for the World cup ,IT parks etc have no use unless the basic amenities of the common people is taken care of.It seems that authorities and politicians are least bothered and now only God can save Mumbai.

I agree with you; the politicians in India are not accountable; I am in China now and am so impressed with the world class infrastructure that makes us hang our head in shame when we compare ourselves with them.

Whatever be China's agenda and human development record, we must agree that there is no price on an individual's life. Is human life precious? does the government care for welfare of its citizens? If yes, it would have given highest priority to control crime, ensure development before there is a need. Its police force would have been stronger to protect its citizens and not become gulible to taking bribe to circumvent rules. A huge number of people die or lose their lives due to floods, epidemics, crime, women lose their modesty - why because the government is not proactive. It is not even reactive- they know that every one will take care of themselves. Corruption can be controlled- if the election commission can show the way, why can't other legislative offices and ministries control the situation. The root cause somehow lies with all of us. Should we not take action against the government of depriving us of minimum facilities- I live in Mumbai and if you look at the streets, or the railway bridges - water accumulates every where, the tiles that are being put up- by what standard have they been evaluated for completion- which corrupt officer gives the contractor completion certificate and clears their bill - I am concerned at the safety standards on the roads, the width of the footpath is decreasing-motorists are driving like crazy and creating traffic jams by lane cutting just to go one car ahead.Just by lack of commitment to enforce law and order, things are going haywire
If this is shangaaiii thanks god i didnt had a trip to shangaaiii yet, thanks to the BMC MMRDA who help to convert the mumbai in to shangaiii here itself...good floods, good nallas, goods drainage system all this is superb ....so one can rank the mumbai city in the world most beautiful city ...MUMBAI!!!!!!!!! SHANGAIIIIIIIII
if valentine would have been in july, shiv sainiks would have got out to beat folks. Rain havoc is not a good enuff reason for them to come out and help people in need?
