India rising... Is Indian Civic sense?
by Sudha Ram on Feb 07, 2007 03:36 PM  Permalink

True indeed everthing what she has mentioned above. When did the basic Civic sense vanish from this country with 1000s of years of history.
Where is its rich tradition reflected while you walk on a road?
What is the ratio of public restrooms to the population? Is it atleast .000001 restroom per 1,00,000 of people?

Improve Civic Sense first. Then only can we dream of big things.

Yes India can be a black board to learn from..........to its global partners
by shobana nair on Feb 07, 2007 01:49 PM  Permalink

This article does show some truth that Indian developmental process can teach this world lessons on behaviour towards the multicultural society, tolarance to avoid friction, sharing and caring for the overal development of our environment and society,a religion which teaches how to forgive, and also how to crush the evils in the society,India has developed butthetraditional base and culture is still in tact so there is modernisation within the softness of our culture and community without destroying the original flavour of our cultures which is diversely spread out within our country. So the final result is a robust society and not a robotic one as in developed countries. All our ancestors have come from tribes so to this day any man on this earth cannot deny this and point others with ignorance on this subject if so he has not learnt his history well. The Indian tribes still teach us about our origin and still has many medical solution which even our latest technologies cannot solve. So knowing this developed countries have a new lesson to learn about our tribes who will even teach all how to save our environment and how to save our tomorrow from self destruction. So calling the tribes primitive has no sense here be it Indian or else where in the globe.Commenting without being in a country is foolishness as that shows lack of general knowledge and ignorance about ones education.

Future of the world &India.
by vishwanath shetty on Feb 07, 2007 09:08 AM  Permalink

Dear readers,
Ofcourse India will be a super-power/leader in every aspects of the human life.We have great culture, humans, brain, hardship, and leadership qualities.
But we have darkness in our country, which is poverty.more than 30/ of people are still living under poverty line.this is really a black-mark for our country. All our present growth is creating further gap between rich and poor. The purchasing power of middleclass also comming down.If this gap is not corrected we will have more internal problem in our country, which may once-again stop our growth.or political will-power has to be improved.Corruption in each level has to be stopped.Equal opportunity must be provided to all.Brain drain has to be stopped. We must realise the hardtruth instead of day-dream.
To become no-1 in the world we have to be at-par with so many advanced countries. We must also take care of our envirement/health/peace.The world is looking at us,21st century is for Asia, but light of Asia is still not as bright as painted.
We still boost about ourself, but in reality yet we have to achieve a lot.Tough and hard days are ahead for us.Please be united, and sincerely work hard to make our nation to be the global leader.
JAI HIND.VANDE-MATARAM.

WHAT ELSE IS NEW ABOUT THE ARTICLE
by Satish Bhardwaj on Feb 07, 2007 02:50 AM  Permalink

India has always been mainstream. People did not realise it. Perhaps they still do not realise it. It was centuries ago that Hindu numeral system beat the Roman nummeral system. Hindu words like Pundit, Guru, Karma and many other words have been used universaly by English Speaking people. There was a sit com in USA where the name of the girl was Dharma. Chandra has been used as a name by many world wide Girls. Why the name of daughter of this deceased Australian Dare Devil is Bindi. India has been influencing the western world. Only now are people realising it. In New York City there is a life size statute of Mahatma Ghandhi on a street. And on another street the name of Nehru is stamped along with the names of other world leaders.

FUTURE OF INDIA
by shameem sheikh on Feb 06, 2007 05:23 PM  Permalink

NICE ARTICLE! THE STANDARD OF LIVING HAS REALLY IMPROVED IN INDIA NOW; IT SEEMS IT IS GOING TO CONTINUE IN THIS WAY. INDIANS ARE KNOWN TO BE MORE HARD WORKING AND MORE INTELLIGENT. THERE IS NO DOUBT ABOUT IT THAT THINGS ARE GOING TO CHANGE FOR THE BETTER IN INDIA. THE ECONOMY IS BOOMING. THERE ARE JOB OPENINGS AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE. AVIATION SECTOR, HEALTH CARE, TRANSPORT, IT, BPO'S , BANKING, ENTERTAINMENT. YOU NAME IT AND ITS THERE. THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM IS CHANGING AND BECOMING MORE AND MORE TRANSPARENT. THE POLITICAL SCENARIO WILL FOLLOW SUIT TOO. IF THIS TREND CONTINUES, I DONT SEE ANY REASON FOR INDIA TO BE LEFT BEHIND. . . . . .THE FUTURE AFTER ALL DEPENDS ON EACH ONE OF US, AND WE ARE THE ONES DECIDING WHAT INDIA WOULD BE 20 YEARS FROM NOW. VIVA INDIA ! ! !

Its just another rosy picture

Dear author,
Visiting india once in while is different and staying in india is different. I do not see any change in the mentality and attitude of the people. Yes there is growth ,but that is increasing the gap between rich and poor.. Also this growth is seen in 4-5 states of india while other 25 states are facing intense fiscal deficits..There is lack of law and order, judicialry in india is so pathetic that it takes years to et justice...and we always say that justice delayed is justice denied..but that happens everytime....corruption is found even at the lowest level of admininstration..there is no proper planning for future..the standard of living in india compared to any other countries in west, middle east, south east is very poor..there are no measures for population growth..it is vident that growth seen in china, singapore, japan, and other south east countries is due to birth control over last 3 decades..but india there there is nor regulation neither awareness..all politicval parties aim at forthcoming elections in states or country and have nothing to do with growth..
I want to congratulate indians for showing sustainable growth inspite of these obstacles, but this growth needs to penetrate to rural areas across the country and to every individual..whjihci is not happening...
regards,
vishal
many more things..

Mr. Vishal,

You seem to be a little outdated on your information. Either you live in india and have imbibed the negative attitude, or you live outside and have a picture from 10 years back.

From all the latest indiactions, population growth is coming under control. And as far as chinese population control is concerned, they have hurt themselves with their tough controls, they are facing a huge aging population crisis.

It is expected that in a few years time our population growth will reach what is desirable.

Rising Outside and What Is Inside? Politicians and Public Servants Need Training.
by kamala dash on Jan 30, 2007 06:28 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is true India is Rising. but is it for The Indians? if for Indians them for which India; the rich India or the Downtrodden India?
this neds to be answered. Till date our Policy framework for tackilng underdebvelopmet either has not been implemnted or has never been devised.

Now a Days often we talk of soft power of India and the diaspora playing a role in it. true the diaspora is playing an active role from the outside but what about the complex doemestic socio-economic situation. our soft power project has been poor and though of late picking up fast, still we need to have a proper public diplomacy policy. With the increasing reach of the Brand India, India will be expected to behave rationally and more responsibly. To ensure this, the policy makers; politicians and bureaucrats need to be senstised.
bureaucrats in India think themselves as the most knowledgeous people and anyone else must know less than them and hence must obey them.
the politicains think themselves not less than GOD. although they can not create life but certainly can kill people. so they think they are endowed power of the destroyer, if not the Creater. there is a mind set problem. Police reform is the urgent need. All these people who love no work-all pay are aginst the Judicial activism.
State represents power structure and a vicious nexus of businessmen-Criminals-Politicians and Bureaucrats. They all oppose transparency and power in the hands of common people so they oppose the Right to Information Act.

Politicians are leaders but what do they lead and whom do they lead-criminals, anti-socials, vested interests and what not. Public Servants make the public serve them. Go to any office see how a so called higher officer behaves with the socalled lower officer (take the word "peon"). fourth class emplyees are treated as if they are no human beings. this false sense of superiority in administration stinks of a feudal and a colonial mindset. who will tackle these insensitive brutes? Only option is to make drastic changes in the trainig modules and methods. make them stay in a village, make them talk to people and stay and eat with them for a year. ask them to adopt a village for a year and show changes after that year. a person who can not change a village cant change a district.

for politicians there has to be minimum qualification and training before joining any political party. no party would allow anti-socials, goons and illiteartes.

The Government has to take strong measures in this Direction or else all the bubble that has been created till date will just burst.

A Bihar, an UP, and an Orissa though are not enough to bring India down, but these states' future progress will determine the future of the Country.

There has to Be Zero Tolerance on Nine Basic Things

1-Poverty (focus Rural Poverty)
2-Illiteracy
3-Child Labour
4-Gender discrimination
5-Crime

6-Corruption (especialy done by the Politicians and Public Servants)

7-Communalism
8-Anti-national Activities
9-Terrorism (both by the Militants and the govt. Military)
