Yes, India has the knowledge to go forward but what about the basic things like social welfare and public interests. The country should not just think about producing billioners. Most of the people in the country do not know what the future beholds. Cost of living is growing at the rate higher than GDP. What happens to a tax paying person currently 30 years old, when he retires and does not have a pension. What happens if he does not have health insurance???The finance ministry has more visibility on the GDP and tax income rather than people's welfare. What is happening on the infrastructure front. Its only the real estate prices that are booming and the government is just happy to collect a hefty stamp duty on the transactions. There is no regulation or infrastructure facilities provided by the government. What abt our universities. Apart from a few IITs how many universities produce research papers. How much of funds do we allocate on primary education??? Don't blame qualified people who prefer working for a MNC rather than doing research. Reality is in India, doing research does not pay much. Thats why we lose out so many patents(many patents are filed by mnc's though the back ground research is done by some indian)...I think if we can get the basic act first, we sure can be super power at heart and brain....
Yes when you walk in a street , you will definitely find litters , old buildings, when you board our trains, you will find it old..not like the ones u find in japan or in korea....our roads are narrow.....why ? why ? because india is not a country which has grown like a mushroom in yesterdays rain.....we are not improving our wealth through oil revenues..... The only thing we have is "brain power" our investment is "knowledge". It will take some time for the common man to realise his mistakes ( like child labour, spitting in public) and rectify ..... Kudos to indians and india for coming so far....

While I agree but I must say if only Indian "brains" would stop slaving in foreign land and help India, we could achieve a lot. but on the other side, it is not so much of a fault of those who leave India, they leave because first and foremost, India needs to stop the age barrier for employment and think of a wage restructure. if a woman is in her 30s it is so hard to get a job as a secretary or similar line, she might be very efficient who can run the office duty real well but can not because no one will give her a job at that age. I am a very proud Indian and working abroad, it breaks my heart that we are still trying to please a country like US etc. who can not be trusted. I wish India can change some of it's old views. India has succeeded in copying malls, clothing style etc. but can we change some of our views that are much required. With all the pros and cons, my heart is for India. just remember the countries we are talking about has worst side that they do not project, they are not as honest in agreeing with the truth like we do.
Mr. Ravi Shankar, I fail to understand your wisdom to drive home certain neat points sitting in the cushion of luxury in some foregn land, after running away froma system, you yourself called a damn one at first. when did that damn one become a 'sweet home'? After noticing fallacies of a so-so foreign culture, you had dreamt of? These paper tigers better be asked to serve their country for some time, at least pay back, what this 'damn' system had contributed to them, before gaining to authority to preach. where do you expect India to prosper? Is that when the goverment pump in a lot of conutry men's hard earned money into IITs to nurture the home talent, and alas, all of them realise at the end of their course that the very system is 'damned' and run of chsing their white dollar dreams. please don't publish this kinda hollow preachings anymore. Let him keep waiting their till the streets of india be free of litter, poiliticians be gentlemen, and people greet and smile evrybody else; for him to come back. Please get down to the thick and breadth of this country, you will see a lot of people serving the nation without expecting a public name, take cues from them to get th ereal picture. First let the preachers gain the authority.

I agree, since when did you start finding faults of your home. Its the same home that you started from to where you are now. Its not that such things appeared overnight, they were there. I am not against IT but believe me it is IT that has given us this ounce of courage to stand at a pedestal and make judgements about the same place called home. Take IT away and you still have the same problems you are mentioning.
Having said that, I would also like to add that we do not close our eyes to realities that you have pointed out. Would have appreciated if you could follow events back home and how the little insignificant things are turning out real big. Hope you are following the criminal cases in the country, something unheard of years ago is happening. Justice is being given. This is just a small example n there are many more. Smart people like you decide to give up cosy things in life and walk the talk. Please read about them as well, there are many many such small individuals who in their own small way are contributing towards building this great country. Its a small step but atleast in the right direction.
Instead of passing judgements on the state of the country, it would be really appreciable if the good things are highlighted and encouraged. Am not suggesting we close our eyes but rather help in our small way either through work or some words of encouragement. Ravi, you are a consultant and am sure you know how to present the best case studies, project profiles to your clients. I am sure you would not like to highlight anything that would prove to be a detriment in doing a deal or work cos thats how you build your organization. Its not taking away the fact that your organization would be a worthy vendor for its clients. Its just that we present the positive highlights being also aware of the negatives.
I would not like to sound preachy though, but it would be a better if we did something for the country and then tried to say anything about it. Just to get a feel for it - would you be willing to quit your job abroad and come back and try contributing in your own small way for the betterment of the nation. Its difficult cos the shine of the dollars and the pounds make it difficult to come back. Fully understanding that every human has to make his living, i appreciate your working abroad as you have your dreams to follow, things to accomplish but at the same time do not be so contemptful of people here. Everything needs time and give it some time, the changes will happen. It would be really good of you to say some positive things that uplift the spirits of peole home so that we try and make it a better place by the time our folks abroad come back home. by RobertD
I agree with you wholeheartedly. Progress is essential for India yet it should be done with heart and a strong commitment to keeping our core cultural values. I've lived most of my life in the US and although this is a great country I feel they have lost their soul. Family lives are fractured and relationships in general are based on individual need not common goals. God willing as India moves forward she will not relinquish her glorious culture and just become a weak, bastardized copy of the West
How can you be ashamed of your country? SHame on you. I loved my country no matter how it was. I have always loved and keep on loving my country doesn't matter what condition it is in.
the country will not have heart. only people has heart. now even the heart of people in india is changing in the name of grouth. the country which has addopted gandisum is now addopting brandism by promoting by promoting bars and dance clubs with girls in the forefront. after some time we can find only art instead of heart.
Have we forgotten post-Tsunami, how we have helped each other. Although we lost and bled during the period we did come forward to help SriLanka and other affected countries.
We had war like situation in 1999 and 2001 with Pakistan still we had children from Pakistan getting medical treatment in India. It is not the words of courtesy that helps but the action when you bleed.
I am now in UK, my seventh country to work or study abroad. That includes EU(3 countries) and Asia (Middle East and SE Asia). I think good and bad are everywhere and countries even in the same region are quite different e.g. Belgium is much better in most things than English-speaking world including the humanitarianism or care for others. Generally, the West is less human indeed and Asians have more of a heart, yet at times we Indians or other Asians seem not to have a heart and discriminate or exploit others. All countries and people have dual standards somewhere. The reason why the West is more materialistic and less human is that they have followed capitalist principles of %u2018individual greed being good for material progress%u2019. So Russians and East Europeans still have a better heart, a strong reason for many EU or US gentlemen to marry less-spoiled, caring Russian or Eastern ladies. But most Asians prefer tradition/culture over capitalist values. So, the differences are a product of historical social systems and beliefs. Conclusion-- Yes, Indians should find a way to be a superpower with a heart and let all others follow the same. We are all culprits of losing humanity due to historical social systems. Blaming or praising piecemeal incidents or manifestations are pointless.

i totally agree with you on this deepika. i'm in canada myself. if i'm sending in money, i'm doing it for my family and i consider it as my duty.. but, i know that there are 100's of 1000's of professionals who go to work abroad are not able to meet the ends and end up wasting their talents and not able to even help the family as much as he wanted.
i think the professionals who are in india server their family and country more than us.
It is really nice infact touching to see that all you are concerned of the homeland so much.It seems that you guys are discussing the problems we are facing. But at the same time it appears that we are messing up on rather. Each of you know the problems and solutions. All of us agree the solution requres contribution from all of us. So let's pledge that each of us will do something we can or atleast not contribute to it's owes. Come on keep on.
