A balanced view
by Veeresh Srivastava on Jan 22, 2007 05:08 PM

I am now in UK, my seventh country to work or study abroad. That includes EU(3 countries) and Asia (Middle East and SE Asia). I think good and bad are everywhere and countries even in the same region are quite different e.g. Belgium is much better in most things than English-speaking world including the humanitarianism or care for others. Generally, the West is less human indeed and Asians have more of a heart, yet at times we Indians or other Asians seem not to have a heart and discriminate or exploit others. All countries and people have dual standards somewhere.
The reason why the West is more materialistic and less human is that they have followed capitalist principles of %u2018individual greed being good for material progress%u2019. So Russians and East Europeans still have a better heart, a strong reason for many EU or US gentlemen to marry less-spoiled, caring Russian or Eastern ladies. But most Asians prefer tradition/culture over capitalist values. So, the differences are a product of historical social systems and beliefs.
Conclusion-- Yes, Indians should find a way to be a superpower with a heart and let all others follow the same. We are all culprits of losing humanity due to historical social systems. Blaming or praising piecemeal incidents or manifestations are pointless.
