Praful Bidwai's column about Saddam
by Kakatua Autakak on Jan 16, 2007 08:04 AM  Permalink

I am surprized to learn that none of the posts in this discussion supported Mr. Bidwai. However I am fully in agreement with him on this article. Saddam committed crime - no doubt about it, he was hanged thats fine too. But the way he was executed was not fair. We all must remember that he has committed a war crime and being a former president of an independant nation he was supposed to stand in front of an UN tribunal & the US did not let it go (as everyone knows the current Iraqi govt is nothing but a puppet regime). Moreover, catching and killing Saddam costed some million innocent lives in Iraq for which we cannot blame him, rather the only available person/govt to blame is the US regime. So if Saddam is executed for 148 lives in 1982 or may be a few more thousands, then why the US govt is not held responsible for killing (directly or indirectly) a million innocent iraqis ??? Also, if Milosevic can get a tribunal why not Saddam ??? - Kakatua

People like Mr Bidwai are more loyal to China than India. I wish people of West Bengal and Kerala understood their game. They are exploiting those people.

Iraq is a problem between Sunnis and Shias
by on Jan 16, 2007 03:04 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In Iraq, Sunnis and Shias are fighting with each other. Saddam's execution was done on behalf of Shiaties not US. The derogatory taunts before his hanging and insults were thrown by Shias, not US citizens. Mr Bidwai, in his customary leftist Hate US mis-propaganda, conveniently ignored this simple fact. You are an idiot Mr Bidwai and so is USA for meddling into intra religious strifes.

The analysis is only partly right and biased.Mr Bidwai has raised pertinent points and needs debating rather than calling him an idiot.USA has made a blunder by invading Iraq and needs to think of a smart exit strategy. Unfortunately, the situation is bad and is likely to get worse. If the idea was to teach Islamics a lesson, it is unlikely to succeed. The best way is to understand each other's culture and live peacefully -- That includes BOTH the sides.

Praful Bidwai is the same columnist who wrote the most derogatory article for the most revered president of India, Abul Kalam.

What is the point of this article? Saddam would be dead if US did not guard him away from the Iraqis for so long. They wanted him dead yesterday! Also US troops leaving does not solve sunnis killing Shia's and vice-versa. The logic given to us now is that these groups are fighting each other for 1300 years and only a brutal dictator can keep them separate. This is not a logical end to this problem. Most deaths in Iraq are their in fighting. US should stay at the cost of lives to provide security. They are also responsible for unleashing the hell. But Saddam being gone is not one of the worst things they did in Iraq

Saddam Hanging
by Sujoy Mukherjee on Jan 15, 2007 09:04 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The problem with communists like Mr. Bidwai is that their hearts are full with "human rights" when it comes to defending terrorists like Afzal or tyrants like Saddam. They dont even shed crocodile's tears, let alone voice concerns when innocents get persecuted whether in kashmir or bangladesh or in kurdistan. When the persecution counts to millions, no one cares about "fair trial" - just hang'em.

Well said Sujoy...

Also Saddam was hanged by the Iraqi justice system, however imperfect it might be. It was proven beyond reasonable doubt that he had commited some 180 counts of first degree murder and justice was done promptly(unlike in India for Afzal). The millions others he killed did not even need to be factored in this although I think they should have done that just for the records.

Mr. Praful Bidwai. Can you kindly do a story on vanishing (vanished?) hindu population in bangladesh/pakistan? You can get some leads/facts from www.hrcbm.org. Also your esteemed opinion on what India should do for the religious minorities in bangladesh/pakistan, will be highly appreciated.

Shut the hell up. What kind of problems are the hindus facing in Bangladesh? For godsake.. stop spreading these propaganda. The Bangladeshi Hindus are in the highest ranking jobs in Bangladesh. Yes there might be polticial motivated incidents but that happens in India too with the muslims. As far as Pakistani Hindus are concerned, the supreme court judge is a hindu and all their rights are taken care properly. it is only shia-sunni fighting and the balouch-punjabi fight. there is no hindu muslim fight. Stop ur nonsense and look into ur internal issues.

for god's sake please don't say that in Bangladesh Hindus are not oppressed. They are denied of minimum civil rights when times come....their lands ...everything taken away by the Muslims there. Bangladesh is not India where minorities are given special protection. They are really oppressed there in Bangladesh. Mr. Ilias Paiker, please be better informed or honest before making these comments.

illias parker is living in a pipe dream. Hindus in bangladesh are more prosecuted than anyother minority in any other country. Rapes, forced marriages, land grab, burning of temples are just some of the handywork of the last regime.

Saddam deserved to die. The end justifies the means. Did US go about killing innocent iraquis? Al Quida is a fighting a bloody terrorist guerilla war there and innocent do get caught in cross fire unfortunately. Praful bidwai should do well to tell his al quida masters to stop creating havoc in iraq and US will go automatically. The fact is muslims cant live in a hetrogenous society-thats why shias and sunnis are fighting it out-why blame US?

Ilias Paiker, let me accept honestly that I have not been to bangladesh. My knowledge is on the basis of talks with my bangladeshi hindu relatives and friends. The website hrcbm.org is also a source of info for me.
I request you to hrcbm.org and let me know if you believe that is propaganda. BTW, have YOU been to bangladesh?
