what is the need of keeping 5 years bond with isro after studying at iist ,and giving thin salaries ,even though the student is interested for doing research but the society is not encouraging him just because of the low salaries and the problems he would face in the future
it is because of my interest in studying space research.nair g,what you have said is exactly correct.now a days teachers are not at all interested in improving the practical knowledge of students.they only want their students to secure high marks.Students are allso not at all interested in serving the country, but they ae interestedonly in getting ajob of high salary mainly in U.S.But iam very much interested in studying about space research.iam a student who completed 2 last year(2006).
Its not because of only fat salaries that people are not flockig to MNC's but it may be one of the reasons. All PSU and govt organisations have age old selection processes like written test, GD And interview. It is actually a elimination process and not a selection process. So if you like to attract good people to your organisation, have a good selection process in place like what the MNC's have. Why on earth would a intelligent man with 4 years of experience will sit for a written test like a school kid to get a job in ISRO. ISRO needs people and not the other way round.Kindly look into it
I agree with some of the views already posted. I think Mr. Arjun Singh will be glad to help out ISRO by getting in some reservation policy. ISRO can then get more students than they require. Quality has never been a criterion for the Indian Government. So why bother about it here.

Bring in the brightest ONLY no quota at all. This is cutting edge stuff not for the quota crowed please..there are other things they may play at, just not here.

Sure, another GoI institution, with 27 13 etc.etc quota of reserved category, you will not get rocket scientists but UFO designers. See the royal mess all central aided universities, labs have become and you will get the point. Of course ther will be rejoinder from social justice lobby and historically deprived of te land.
Bring in Quota system here also. ISRO will satisfy half of the remaining yrly demand from this quota system. Politicians should certainly like this idea i guess.

No QUOTA PLZ, It will hamper the quality of organisation and Nation. I will say that if we really want Nation to progress in true sense. We must stop this quota policy. And scholarship and free eduction should be given to Needy people..Quota should not be based on caste but on financial status. Any Job or admission to school/college should be given on their marks and merits. After selection students who need relaxtation in fees or scholarship should be given.... This way government can truely help needy people and can help in making INDIA SHINE Truly....JAI HIND
I think the education system in India needs a revamp. The IITs are no longer what they used to be. The only real academic research institute in India is IISc and its intake is around 20 people per stream per year or so, if I am not wrong. Those who want advanced degrees (PhDs) leave for the US or Europe.
Also, the pays given to professors in India are pretty paltry. Furthermore, there is very little emphasis on fundamental research. Most people want to become engineers or doctors. Nobody wants to do Physics or Chem as a first choice (I am guilty of the same too). There aren't any jobs for BSc/MSc/PhD physics outside teaching. (See first line of this para). Govt labs in the US hire PhD physics to do fundamental research at a good pay. GoI on the other hand, pays them poorly and gives them an unprofessional work environment. ISRO, BARC and DRDO are probably the only CISR labs that are doing well. We all know what HAL has been up to... Like Madhavan Nair said, GoI needs to seriously reconsider pay packages for scientists, and increase pays in IITs/IIScs to hire good research talent. Allow foreign institutes to open research centers here. GoI can also support these institutes by awarding defence or space research projects to academia. Dunno if it will help, but just my 2 bits. Seems to work in the US...
Firstly, in the name of reservations, half of the students with the merit are blocked. Secondly with the reservations in the jobs, talented people are discouraged. With resevations in promotions it is surprising that atleast some peole are joining. And caste based politics in govt organisations have furthur demitivate. these problems and issues are still not there in MNCs and other private setups

I have issues with reservations, but the lack of performance in science isnt only because of that. 50% is still merit. Where is that merit going? I can understand if the 50% excel and the remaining 50% suck, but that is not the case. Almost everybody sucks, and those that dont, leave due to lack of options or facities or both. The system doesnt work too well! It doesnt encourage work in fundamental research, due to the lack of jobs in the sector. Even in engineering, most engineers become IT professionals after graduation, or MBAs. Both are royal wastes of an engineering degree. Both are lucrative. Look, ppl need 2 things in a job: excitement and money, and the sum of the two, in most jobs is a constant. (In a very, very few jobs can you have both in high doses). So, ppl make their choices... The excitement type will probably seek higher degrees, most of them, abroad. or curb their enthusiasm and work in a mundane job that pays them royally...
India has neglected higher education for a long time, I guess since the late 80's. I think Rajiv Gandhi tried a push for a while, but since then, there's been very little investment on higher education. Yes, India has her priorities in terms of literacy, but it cant be either-or...
Its really pathetic. The Government is not all interested in R&D.They are more concerned playing dirty politics like reservation.
Look at china.they are investing huge money on R&D.Chinese economy is driven by passionate Entrepreneur.
There are 100 institutes related to R&D under the umbrella of CSIR.bu the no of patents resulting from them is very few.this clearly shows the problem these institutes are facing.
Its high time they come out with concrete strategy to resolve this issue.
