For those who would like to know the seriousness of this issue, please go & ask a farmer in any part of India who is having a fertile land whether he is willing to give up his land for any price. The amount of fertile land in our country is decreasing. The Bengal government who dosent have any experience in industrialisation should have been more cautious in selecting the location.
it is all about, throwing out some people, so that some of them can become rich.you see, in our county, all people do not have or there are not enough resources, to feed them. develop one section at the cost of the other is the mantra today all over the world. in a developing country the problem becomes acute, bcas, the frmework of administration is weak, and only the well off get anything they want-whether by hook or crook. this creates problems like nandigram singur etc.
The industrialised states compared to bengal also acquired land for industry and these states have a clear policy for land required for industry instead of the much hyped land reforms of bengal. Leftists are admitting their mistakes in 1980-1990(s).What if...if another leftist leader find the present policies wrong after 10-15 years. Shamik's pain is understandable....but Shamik(s) never try to understand the pain and agony of poor and marginal farmers of singur or nandigram. State can develop remote areas and offer to industry. The singur deal is not transparent..... hide and seek policy adopted by the state is one reason it's not act is not getting through. Left Front controlling the state govt. declared that no further land will be acquired for next three months, obviously it has found serious defects in the process of land acquired so far. To Shamik: you are not in this part of the world...so u know less and u rightly admitted that you may be wrong...do not accuse Mamata Banerjee or Stand with Bhuddha Babu without knowing the ground realities.
The dilemma in this land-acquiring case is simple. The govt want to compensate the ppl at today's prices, which are relatively low today. But if the factory is set-up, it will naturally increase the land rates in that area. So for the farmer who has given up the land, its a prisoner's dilemma.
If he doesnt surrender but other surrender, then the factory comes up and he can sell at higher rates. However, if every farmer thinks like him and doesnt give, then the factory wont come up and the rates wont go up.

can i throw you away from your house as i am rich and i can do business and become more rich
Congratulations to our Mahan Didi and her political party ! True to your nature ,wisdom & knowledge you have acting! Shame to the CM for promising to give jobs to the unemployed ... shame to him for bringing industries to the state ... Bengal should remain with agriculture and only agriculture ... nothing else ... Nandigram, Singur, all the projects should be scraped and agriculture to these lands should be restored ! Shame to the Tata s and Salim s .... Thank you Trinamool to have turned West Bengal to an anti industry state ... however , if you kindly look around you only as far as Orissa, Maharastra, Gujarat etc you will perhaps find something else ... I am now in a different part of the world ... hoping to return to Kolkata after a spurt of industrialisation in and around Kolkata ... thank you for spoiling my hopes to return to my homeland and to my parents .... But I read in the laws it is written that Govt can acquire land for development purposes without giving any intimation ? May be I am wrong , I am ill-informed ... but all over the world I have heard that if agriculture makes way to industry even to a small extent , it is helpful to the society ? May be I am wrong ... but are Mr Amarta Sen and Mr Younnis also wrong in their assessments ?

Dont be an idiot.....Prime agricultural land being used for industrial purposes is rendering Bengal as the begging bowl of the nation.
Moreover, unskilled farmers will find no jobs in the industries.....Devoid of land, and devoid of livelihood, they have started committing suicides....If they were given fair remuneration [like in Rajasthan, Delhi, Western UP (Noida) and Gujarat .. running into crores why should they have complained]

i agree that industrialisation is a necessity, but at the same time one must also understand that land is the only fixed asset of these people which over the yrs will appreciate, fixing prices at todays price and aquiring it forcibly for development appears to be unjust.i am not any party member, but probably will react in the same manner like people of singur.SEZs i feel are a sophisticated form of landgrab.
