LIC Taratolla branch's failure to serve its policy holders ntionwide
by proshanto acharjee on Feb 23, 2007 04:43 PM  Permalink

I had been at the Taratolla branch, Kolkata for the submission of premium for 4 policies belonging to my colleagues. The payment instrument was cheque for all the 4 policies. But the cash counter only accepted 2 policies and refused to take the others. I requested that I am standing in the que again to get service(infact there was none behind me in the que). He did not agree and rather said that I should goto some other branch. So now I moved to the adjoining cash counter and the man seeing me said that he would not service me as he was aware that I have got serviced by the 2 policies payment. So for the payment of the remining 2 policies I stood in the adjoining cash counter and the lady she also took the cheques for processing and was in the job; however the man who refused to service me influenced the lady who further refused to accept my 2 policies. Dont ask me what happened next but is this the correct attitude of LIC whether it be to its agents or its customers or even their representatives. When will LIC come up with a proper servicing policy in all respect whether it be premium payment or maturity or a death claim ?

Bihar and Rape victims
by rd on Feb 23, 2007 12:26 PM  Permalink

Lawless in Bihar with impunity is an everyday occurence in Bihar.
Nothing will ever change. I have lived in that blessed state for 2 years and know the ground realities.
The only solution is to gracefully hand over the state to a rogue country like Pakistan. Bihar will keep Musharaff and his country occupied for all time to come.

president can not do anything
by soumak mookherjee on Feb 23, 2007 11:28 AM  Permalink

many of u suggested that president kalam bring justice to the girl...unfortunately president has no power to do so...at most he can seek report from state governor or union home ministry about what happened and what action has been taken...president can't instruct them to do something...
our president is a nice person, but unfortunately president's post does not have any power...so plz be rational and accept that president can not bring justice to the girl..

Indians dont know where there perogative should be
by kumar on Feb 23, 2007 06:52 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I have an Indian friend who always talks about the greatness of India and denies that corruption and terrible things (such as the one in this article) ever happen in India. Denial is the worst thing for India. Its little girls like this girl who gets hurt by Indian's denial. I was shocked at how this guy fought about how wrong Rajiv Ghandi's death was but didn't even raise a whimper to defend this girl after we read this article 20mins ago. His statement was that this is a rarity in India. Our other two friends were no better. Get your perogative right India. Little girls and boys' livelihood IS the most important thing. Looking after them is the most nationalistic thing you can do.

If you get economic power, muscle power, uniform power, or academic power you get the rights to abuse in India. I saw educated man how badly they treat servants, poor and subordinates. Urban Indians are rudest in the world.

Dear friend,

Anyone who has spent some years in a typical indian city/town/village with his mind open to experiences would not deny any of the issues raised by you. Your post is full of angst which we Indians feel and live with 24/7. My question to you and people like you is what did you do to change it? You went to the US of A, accepted a lucrative scholarship, and I am sure are on the way to the top. Any intelligent person would do that, won't he ? So you also chose a better career and economic prospects over struggling against the socio-political filth of India like so many "talented" Indians do (what an irony that one is writing such comments on a website which thrives on UBIs i.e. unfortunately born indians). Sadly, not unlike them you also wrote another piece of apt but trite arm-chair commentary while sitting in your comfortable dorm room in NY, contemplating how poor weak Indians are looking desperately for some hero. Can you see what you are, moreover what you are becoming? Ask yourself this; after your PhD would you come back (not would you like to come back) and start a pioneering research group in India?

The socio-political terrain of any country doesn't change because it finds THE leader but because number of so-called common people like me and you share a common goal and work against severe odds to realise it. Kalam or no-Kalam, India will only change if we decide and work to make it happen 24/7.

Jai Hind.

Dear Friends,
Stop sermoning others. Look at your own behaviour. All this anarchy is increasing because of indifference of the educated middle or whatever class. Look at the voting percentages in a city like Mumbai, full of so called educated intelligent INDIANS. If poor ,uneducated only are going to vote then who do you think will rule you and me.And what best methods are there than intimidation and money to woo these poor voters. And once the power is there what different behaviour than those Thakoors can be expected? These things are going to happen time and again because you get the rulers that you deserve.

dont blame the people who left. Some left because of lack of opportunities. Unless you can create the commenurate opportunity, then its hard for anyone to come back. Do you want people to come back to a MD and be a farmer.

its people like you that compare the best in india to the worst in the west, prevent India from moving forward. In US, people know about paedophiles etc because they are generally brought to justice. In India, people are even scared to go to the police. Whether there is paedophiles in US or not, what happened to this girl is injustice. Thats what you need to concentrate on. There nutcases everywhere, but when justice to little girls and boys doesn't happen, then its barbaric.

When i sent this article to a friend with a petition to the president of india, he wrote back saying, nay this is common in bihar and hindi belt. Who gives an f**** if its common anywhere in the world, its our duty as fellow humans to write these petitions so we can help in this little way. Do India a favor and write to the president to do something for this girl.

Dear Priya,

MJ was on trial and even went to jail. US has very strict laws. In India you wouldn't hear thousands of cases because going to police itself is a torture. I came to US because I got frustrated living in India. Many people who could not leave the country say they are patriots. IN any case what are you doing living in India? Are you helping people out there or going to work, making money and going home?

dear mr Jai hind

i think indians should stop crying about the fact that there is brain drain from india because it does not change in any manner the life of the commen man women or child but its the responsiblilty of we indians staying here in india saying this we should appreciate the fact that a semi educated girl from a village by some miracle of god still believe in the people who govern our country.
its a lesson for all of us whining and crying about corruption, bad politicians etc etc....that we should beleive in ourselves and our country......life is tough but so is india but it has a heart of gold...trust me guys this the place where we get the warmth we desire. As an after thought i was surprised at the fact that so many people staying abroad felt bad about the comments about people leaving the country for better opportunities...rather than expressing concern for the poor girl....well i guess it all happens here in india...guys get a perspective in life....i guess the best ones are still in india.....people who moved to the west probably were not the best in india...i guess they sought better opprtunities here in the west which is just for monetary gain. india needs people who come up with ideas which go beyond mere monetary gains. as for the girl we should extend all our support and may she have all the strength to fight and hopefully get justice.

Huh? What does living in the usa have to do with expressing an opinion about the issue. And what the f*** do you mean by comfortable dorm room? What an oxymoron. Why dont you try and come to a foreign country and attempt to create a future for yourself instead of scripting 'swades' plots for our lives. I would like to see you battle the cold, arrange for your own food, work nights at libraries so that you can afford the ridiculously expensive college tuition of this country, work days so you can afford the room and board, put off talking to your family members or your girl weeks at an end cos the phone rates are so high and then compete with americans in an education system that has been designed with americans in mind. My duty is not to India--it is to my family first and foremost as they are the ones who sacrificed the most for me. Now if I feel that I can make their lives a little easier by accepting a 'lucrative' scholarship I am gonna accept that scholarship every day of the week and twice on sundays(I am a christian).Take your self righteous condescending address somewhere else. jesus christ. Proud to be working in the usa and prouder to be making my dad's transition ino retirement easier.
