18 dead in boat mishap - ernakulam
by govindan varatharaja iyer on Feb 21, 2007 05:56 PM  Permalink

Cause of the tragedy needs to be let known to public and the guilty punished without mercy and delay. Lesson learnt should be for future corrective measures. May the souls of little lives rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences to the parents who in any case cannot be compensated

This will repeat again.
by rehman m on Feb 21, 2007 05:49 PM  Permalink

I felt very bad for those little hearts. I pray for their souls to rest in peace.
But one thing is going to be sure.
All the so called politicians will make huge drama such as.. action against persons responsible for this accident, life saving measures in future, condolence quotes, visiting the victims etc,etc.. but every thing is just for a month.then it will be a history. they wont bother.
As long as their children, kith and kin are safe why are they going to bother about others.
Definitely such kind of incidents will repeat again.

Safety standards???
by ritnanya on Feb 21, 2007 03:46 PM  Permalink

Very Very Sad.
Where are the safety standards? Why govt is
so lethargic? Unless or otherwise, there are strict safety mechanisms followed these type
of incidents will bound to happen.
In india, there are no strict standards followed. All Dual standards. Law for common public and politicians are different. How many people are wearing helmets while driving 2 wheelers? Are emission checks are strictly follwed? Are people following signals correctly? How many are getting their licenses with strict driving tests? I can go on like these points.....
ALL GOVTS, PLEASE WAKE UP. HUMAN LIFE IS VALUABLE AND PRICELESS.

For ill fated young ones and Parents
by Ramakrishna Panicker on Feb 21, 2007 01:21 PM  Permalink

I am helpless to write something other than the lines of Poem wrote by His Excellency President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on the like event of Kumbakonam -
Crying parents burying their little ones!!
Oh Almighty! show Your grace on those little ones
And keep them all in Thy Holiest Presence!!
Oh Almighty! bless those parents wilting in grief
To have the strength to bear this great loss
May Thy compassion and grace pervade all souls
And bring down the pain and wipe away the tears
Oh Almighty! show Your grace on those little ones.

Look in the system
by Amod on Feb 21, 2007 12:12 PM  Permalink

The news item mentions that the boats did not have the required license. This implies that a system of licensing does exists. The issue here is, and it will be a fitting tribute to the children who lost their lives, to examine the system and book the persons responsbile for not examing the boat or not stopping it for wilful murder. The incident should be taken as a grim reminder that the governance is all about ensuring saftey of the citizens of the country, and the children were the citizens of our country.
Questions should be asked from the forest department and the officials of the bird sanctuary when was the last time the boats were examined, how come a boat without license was operating in the reservoir-who is responsible to ensure this. Until and unless we create pressure on the system to operate and fulifill its resposnibilities the tragedies like thisd will happen and we will refuse to learn from such mistakes.

very tragic incidence
by kacharu toshniwal on Feb 21, 2007 12:03 PM  Permalink

We feel crying at 2000 km away from the incidence. May God give courage to all those, who lost their beloved angels in this tragedy. I request the indian government to initiate a law whereby, boat testing and upkeep becomes visible and reliable, so that mishaps can be minimized.
