There be no compulsion in religion
This is what quran says.
In Surah 2
256. LET THERE BE NO COMPULSION IN RELIGION:
Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.

Some thughts of an Athiest
by CG NAIR on Mar 21, 2007 09:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

1) I agree with Mr. Mike and Mr. Rafiuddin, for the sake of argument, that each and every word of the Holy Koran in nothing but truth. But when will be Day of Judgement come? Even those fought bravely along side the Prophet still remains buried. When will they be eligible for all those rewards promised in the Koran?
2) Yesterday's Mumbai Mirror carried news of (1) a muslim girl of about 16 years committing suicide due to harrassment of their employers - reported arrestedin today's MM - and (2) a Muslim youth violently killing his wife. Despite having taught the Koran, how come they committed such crime?
3) Let us consider Aurangazed as the Greatest (even greater than Akbar). Of what use is that for today's poor muslims? Will it enable them to earn a decent livlihood? If not why the eagerness on part of Mr. Mike and Mr. Rafiuddin to go on endless argument?

Hi CG NAIR,

Answer of your question

"when wil be day of Judgement come?"

is already in Quran.

Surah No. 4
187. They ask thee about the (final) Hour - when will be its appointed time? Say: The knowledge thereof is with my Lord (alone): None but He can reveal as to when it will occur. Heavy were its burden through the heavens and the earth. Only, all of a sudden will it come to you. They ask thee as if thou Wert eager in search thereof: Say: The knowledge thereof is with Allah (alone), but most men know not.

188. Say: I have no power over any good or harm to myself except as Allah willeth. If I had knowledge of the unseen, I should have multiplied all good, and no evil should have touched me: I am but a warner, and a bringer of glad tidings to those who have faith.

During the time fo the Prophet there was talk of an eminent end to the world and that's how the talk of all those rewards and punishments crept into the Koran. Nearly 1400 years have passed since then and nothing has happened so far! The problem of interpretation arises when we take the text out of context. As per my knowledge, Koran was written about 80 years after the death of the Prophet and till then the same existed in the memory of his followers and those who heard them. So there are so many exaggerations.

DEAR NAIR,
ISLAM NEVER ADVOCATE ANY TYPE OF VOILENCE. MUSLIMS ARE HERE ABOUT 1400 YEARS. SO THE BAD PRACTICES, HABIT, CULTURE AND RELIGIIN PENETRATED IN THE MUSLIMS' LIFE. THE INCIDENTS YOU QUOTED, THE ONLY RESULT OF IMPACT OF BAD PRACTICES OF HINDUISM WHIHC OVERWHEMLY INFLUENCED TO THE NORMAL MUSLIM. THIS IS NOT RELATED TO ISLAM. IN ISLAM SUICIDE AND KILLING BOTH ARE PROHIBITED. THIS HINDU CULTURE WHO ADVOCATING SATI PRATHA AND NOT RESPECTING THE WOMEN.

THE GREAT EMPEROR - SHAHENSHAH AURANGZEB
by Mike Gandhi on Mar 21, 2007 08:59 PM  Permalink

It should be pointed out here that zakat (2.5% of savings) and %u2018ushr (10% of agricultural products) were collected from all Muslims, who owned some wealth (beyond a certain minimum, called nisab). They also paid sadaqah, fitrah, and khums. None of these were collected from any non-Muslim. As a matter of fact, the per capita collection from Muslims was several fold that of non-Muslims. Further to Auranzeb's credit is his abolition of a lot of taxes, although this fact is not usually mentioned. In his book Mughal Administration, Sir Jadunath Sarkar, foremost historian on the Mughal dynasty, mentions that during Aurangzeb's reign in power, nearly sixty-five types of taxes were abolished, which resulted in a yearly revenue loss of fifty million rupees from the state treasury.

While some Hindu historians are retracting the lies, the textbooks and historic accounts in Western countries have yet to admit their error and set the record straight.

THE GREAT EMPEROR - SHAHENSHAH AURANGZEB

Now let us deal with Aurangzeb's imposition ofthe jizya tax which had drawn severe criticism from many Hindu historians. It is true that jizya was lifted during the reign of Akbar and Jahangir and that Aurangzeb later reinstated this. Before I delve into the subject of Aurangzeb's jizya tax, or taxing the non-Muslims, it is worthwhile to point out that jizya is nothing more than a war tax which was collected only from able-bodied young non-Muslim male citizens living in a Muslim country who did not want to volunteer for the defense of the country. That is, no such tax was collected from non-Muslims who volunteered to defend the country. This tax was not collected from women, and neither from immature males nor from disabled or old male citizens. For payment of such taxes, it became incumbent upon the Muslim government to protect the life, property and wealth of its non-Muslim citizens. If for any reason the government failed to protect its citizens, especially during a war, the taxable amount was returned.
