During the time fo the Prophet there was talk of an eminent end to the world and that's how the talk of all those rewards and punishments crept into the Koran. Nearly 1400 years have passed since then and nothing has happened so far! The problem of interpretation arises when we take the text out of context. As per my knowledge, Koran was written about 80 years after the death of the Prophet and till then the same existed in the memory of his followers and those who heard them. So there are so many exaggerations.
